Ch. 31: Heartbreak

She quickly followed his crow as she prayed for his safety, "oh, please be okay until I get there. Please don't be wounded, please don't be dead."

As she got closer to the fight, she could hear the rumbling from their fighting from miles away. "That sounds really bad," her breaths were getting faster from the anxiety that ran through her nerves.

And when she finally reached the scene, she couldn't believe her eyes. The right side of Tengen's face was purple, and he'd been poisoned. He had a lot of gashes on his body and was losing a lot of blood. It was upper moon three - Akaza and the new upper moon six - Kaigaku (Zenitsu's old buddy).

"Thunder Breathing, First Form."

She managed to temporarily disable them with her blind attack.

Tengen's face scrunched in annoyance and worry when she showed up. The last thing he wanted was to see her there. "What are you doing here?!"

"What do you mean? I'm here for you. You look terrible!"

"ARE YOU STUPID? YOU COULD GET SERIOUSLY HURT HERE-" he stopped when Kaigaku appeared behind her all of a sudden with a knife against her neck. His speed, thanks to his Thunder Breathing, was spectacular. They were distracted for just one second, and that was all the new upper six needed, "she's pretty fast, isn't she, Akaza sama? I don't know anyone other than me and a certain yellow head that used Thunder Breathing."

Akaza immediately recognised her, "I know you! You were there when I killed the Flame Hashira. My, were you fashionably late to the party." He was right behind Tengen, with his palm very close to his neck, "don't move, or we'll kill you both."

"I remember Muzan sama telling us that she'd killed a significant number of upper and lower moons. Isn't that right — sun breathing user?"

"Is this how you fight? That's pathetic." She stood there, obviously unfazed, "you two talk too much." She was ready to take them both on as soon as she signaled Tengen, but she couldn't have him fight much with how they'd already weakened him enough to not be able to effectively fight. But his eyes were still blazing bright, reminding her a little of Rengoku, telling her that he would still fight at full capacity if it came down to that.

"Have some fear!" Kaigaku's voice resonated in her ear, "you're just a mere mortal!"

Tengen could hear his heart drumming in his ears. She was triggering them way too much when they were clearly so unpredictable.

He saw her signal and immediately ducked to go straight at the upper six behind her while she drew her swords to attack Akaza who was right behind Tengen.

When Akaza saw her attack, a huge smile appeared on his face. He was surprised and overjoyed with how she had the balls to attack him head on like that. Her first attack made his hands go flying.

"Huh?" He looked at the clean chop before growing his hands back again, "THIS IS WHAT I WANTED TO SEE!" He paused for a moment as it dawned upon him, "You're the one that beat up Douma, aren't you?? My, was he in terrible shape when he came running to Muzan sama." Akaza laughed his heart out.

"I like you. I will spare you once since you did me a favour." He said, "leave that man behind and run. We won't attack you."

"Sorry." She took her stance again, "but I need that man to go back with me."

"Huhhh??? Don't tell me later that I didn't give you the chance to run." He attacked her head on and she blocked him with her swords. She quickly let go of her swords to pull out her knives and slashed him with it, making him back away a little.

"What a shitty mov-" he felt the poison get to him. His wounds weren't healing and she was constantly attacking him.

"Hinokami Kagura." She wasn't going to wait for an opening, so she created one herself.

She heard Tengen's scream and her body instantly froze as she looked behind her to see that the upper six was only imitating his voice.

Akaza quickly impaled her torso with his Air Type and closed in to grab her face.

"I'll be taking this one with me. Muzan sama will be very happy."

Tengen had almost knocked out the upper six but he stopped as soon as he saw her, giving the upper six an opportunity to launch a direct attack at him.

The upper six was in his way and Akaza was taking her away, "MIYUKIIIIIII!" He screamed from his soul, "STOP THAT! LET HER GO!!" He desperately fought the upper six as Akaza disappeared with her.

"You're lucky she showed up. I'll see you later~" the upper six also vanished.

Tengen's breathing got heavier and faster as he processed everything that just happened.

"MIYUKI??" He hoped for it to be a lie, a nightmare he could wake up from, "MIYUKI?" He looked around like a lost puppy. He was so confused that she was gone. She didn't respond to his calls.

"Baby?" He desperately searched through the rubble for hours. Tears threatened to fall out of his eyes as the poison spread through his body, making it more and more difficult for him to move. "Miyuki, please come back to me." He found one of her knives, "baby, please come back, I can't do this alone." His resilience finally collapsed as he broke down and screamed at the ground.

He felt so helpless that moment. All over again. He'd felt this once before, when his wives died. And now it hurt is whole body. He didn't want to go back without her. He refused to go back without her, but he couldn't try to find her without healing himself first.

Nobody knew where Muzan or the other upper moons were. There was no way to find her.

"MIYUKIIIIIII!" He hoped for her to hear him and come back to him. His heart was being ripped apart every time he called out to her.

He was so angry that he couldn't think.

"They're trying to toy with us." Ubuyashiki was furious inside, but he still maintained the same stoic face, "don't let them get on your nerves, Tengen."

Tengen was now fully healed. It had been a week since she was taken by Akaza.

"Is there a way that I can stop you from going? We don't have much information about their whereabouts and the advantages they have in their domain."

"You can't stop me, Master, forgive my stubbornness." Tengen was just about to leave Ubuyashiki's when the three kids came running.

"We're going with you!" Inosuke was the first to talk this time.

"No." He flatly refused, "it's too dangerous."

"It's Miyuki san!" Tanjiro was very worried about his sister, "we must go with you!"

"We're following you whether you like it or not." Zenitsu was intimidated by Tengen but that didn't stop him from saying that.

"I don't want your deaths on my hands. You're still children."

"We'll get her back for sure!" Tanjiro was energetic as usual. "We won't get in your way, we trained very hard for this!"

"Well then, prepare yourselves...," Tengen had bags under his eyes from barely sleeping. He was training the entire time while trying to recover as soon as possible. He had taken down entire forest covers with his training. "It goes without saying that I will protect all the ordinary people living their nonchalant drab lives, but she's more important to me."

"Starting now, things are going to get real flashy!"
