Vira's POV
"I'm pregnant."
"Kya?!" I exclaimed, the shock visible on my face.
"Haan..."
"Yaar, mazak maat karo. Ye badi baat hai."
"Mein mazak nahi kar rahi hoon."
"What the fuck, Priya?"
"Yaar-"
"Kiske saath?" I asked, the excitement making me act like a teenage girl who'd gotten her nails done for the first time.
"Shayad tumko paata nahi hoga."
"Batao na!" I pleaded, until a wave of realisation hit me. "Oh! Voh parso ka ladka?"
A blush crept onto Priya’s face, her eyes giving away the secret. I screamed in joy, forgetting completely about the scene that had just occurred with Shubman and Ishan. That wasn't important- I was going to be an aunt!
Priya looked at me with a smile, knowing that I would easily guess anything she was hiding from me, and I had a look of pure joy on my face. People around must've thought I was a madwoman.
"How many weeks?"
"2 weeks."
The smile was quickly wiped off my face when I realised. "Shit, phir tune uske saath... voh... kiya?"
Priya laughed as a look of horror replaced my previously happy face when I realised just how this had actually happened.
"Chal. Aaj bohot bura din ho chuka hai, ghar chalte hai."
"Haan yaar."
"Thik hai."
"Oye rukh. Uska naam bhi nahi bataya! Ab bata de."
"Abhishek."
"Abhishek jiju!" I teased.
"Jiju nahi hua hai, yet..."
"Hoge, hoge zaroor."
"Aur Ishan mere jiju kab hone wale hai?"
I stayed silent, reminded yet again of the meeting with Shubman and Ishan. He hadn't even said anything, and had just left me to listen to Shubman's insults and accusations.
We set off to go home, as I hailed a rickshaw on the side of the road to our apartment, as I forced myself to forget the encounter. Ishan had a match tomorrow- despite what had happened a few minutes ago, I would still watch the match.
Cricket should be kept separate from our personal lives. I knew it would be hard to watch, but knowing him personally wouldn't change the fact that Ishan was my favourite cricketer. But, my sweet, sweet revenge was that RCB was the team he was against, and my cheers would only go for RCB.
I didn't notice how long I'd been silent for, thinking about Shubman and Ishan, until Priya pulled me out of my trance by nudging me. "Abhi bhi uske baare mein soch rahi ho?"
"Kiske?"
"Shubman."
"Tumhe kaise pata?"
"You have that look." She said knowingly, her eyes fixed on me. "The one where you're in deep thought about something."
"Yaar, voh aisa kaise bol sakta hai? It's almost like he wants to ruin me and Ishan's relationship."
"Bhul jao ab."
I sighed, glancing out at the bustling streets of Mumbai as they blurred past. "I don't know, yaar. I'm trying not to, but... I can't help it. The way he spoke to me... It just keeps playing in my head. The words he said, the accusations. He acted like he didn’t care how much it hurt."
Priya looked at me with sympathy. "Shubman ki baatien sir pe maat le. I don’t know what’s gotten into him, but you didn’t deserve what he said."
"Hmmm..." I said, still deep in thought.
"Yaar, chod. Unke peeche pad kar hum hi peeche rehte hai."
"Matlab?"
"Yaar, bhul ja. Chal, hum baby names soch lete hai, okay?"
"Arey haan! Hmmm, Abhishek aur Priya.... Ariya! Ya, shayad... Prishek?"
"Prishek? Ye konsa naam hai bhai!"
"Hmmm, what letter do you want it to start with?"
"Maybe V. Or L."
"Vayu!" I exclaimed, and Priya shook her head, quickly realising the reference to the TV show 'Inside Edge' that we'd watched together a few weeks back.
"Actually, it's not a bad name."
"See?!" I giggled. "Vayu was hot AF. What other names? Hmmm, or maybe... Vikrant!"
"Yaar, you gotta agree, Vikrant was kinda hot."
"Eww no! Hmmm, uska naam kya tha? OH Arvind."
"No."
Our banter continued till we got home, rekindling the memories of Inside Edge so much that we decided to binge-watch all of Season 1 again. We stayed up till around 12, and finally finished, with me reviving my Vayu Raghavan fan-girling.
Deep down, I knew it was just a distraction from Ishan. Ishan had always been my number one, but watching another man of interest definitely helped in forgetting what had happened.
We both knew it, but neither of us said it aloud. Our laughter and jokes were just a cover, a way to keep the mood light when everything else felt heavy. As the credits rolled on the last episode, I sighed, the reality of the situation creeping back in.
Priya must have noticed the shift in my mood because she turned to me, her voice softening. "You're thinking about him again, aren't you?"
I bit my lip, trying to brush it off, but the look on her face told me there was no use hiding it. "I can't help it, Priya. Everything with Ishan and Shubman is just... complicated."
"Complicated?" she repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Or are you just avoiding the real issue?"
I looked away, not wanting to admit it. "I don't know... maybe both."
Priya sighed, leaning back against the couch. "Vira, you've got to figure this out. You can't keep running away from it."
"I know," I whispered, my mind drifting back to the argument with Shubman, his harsh words still echoing in my ears. But then there was Ishan, who hadn't said a word in my defence. It was like a part of me was caught between them, unable to move forward without sorting this mess out.
Priya nudged me gently. "Hey, it's going to be okay. Just take it one step at a time, alright?"
I nodded, grateful for her support, even if I didn’t have all the answers. For now, all I could do was take a deep breath and focus on the moment, on what I could control. But deep down, I knew this wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
