The morning light crept into Akaashi's room, casting a warm glow that did nothing to ease the turmoil in his mind. The previous night with Bokuto felt both surreal and dangerously real, the thrill of their closeness now overshadowed by the sharp edges of fear. They had slept side by side, hands entwined, as if holding on to something that was slipping away.

A sharp knock on the door shattered the quiet. Akaashi's heart leapt into his throat as he shot upright in bed, panic taking over.

"Keiji, it's time to get up," his mother's voice called, her tone unusually firm. "We need to talk before school."

Akaashi's eyes flew to Bokuto, who was already scrambling out of bed, panic flashing in his eyes. Without a word, Bokuto darted toward the closet, squeezing himself into the cramped space just as the door to Akaashi's room swung open.

His mother stepped inside, her gaze sweeping the room with an intensity that made Akaashi's stomach churn. "You were up late last night," she said, her voice thick with suspicion.

"I—uh, yeah. Just couldn't sleep," Akaashi stammered, forcing a smile that felt painfully unnatural. He could feel her eyes on him, scanning for any hint of deception. His heart raced as he realized the window was still slightly ajar from when he and Bokuto had snuck back in earlier that morning.

His mother's gaze narrowed. "Why is your window open, Keiji?"

Akaashi's breath caught. "I—I must have left it open last night. It was hot, so I wanted some air."

She frowned but didn't push the issue. Instead, she walked closer, inspecting his room asking him questions about why he is still acting distant and suspicious.

Akaashi's pulse quickened, every instinct screaming at him to deny, deny, deny. "No, I'm just stressed about having to catch up on all the school work. That's all."

His mother didn't look convinced. She folded her arms, her expression turning cold. "Keiji, I'm your mother. I know when you're hiding something."

His mother's expression darkened, and she leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "Listen to me, Keiji. If I ever catch you inappropriately involved with bokuto or with any boy again, there will be major consequences. Do you understand me? This isn't just about you; it's about our family's reputation, and I won't have you disgracing us."

Akaashi's breath hitched, the words hitting him like a physical blow. He felt sick, his head spinning as he nodded weakly. "I understand."

His mother straightened, her expression softening slightly, though the coldness remained in her eyes. "Good. I expect you to remember that. Now get ready for school. And close that window properly."

She turned and left the room, closing the door behind her with a definitive click.

Akaashi stood frozen for a moment, the weight of her words pressing down on him like a physical force. When he finally moved, it was like he was in a daze, his hands trembling as he opened the closet door.

Bokuto emerged, his expression a mix of concern and guilt. "Akaashi, I—"

"She knows," Akaashi whispered, his voice hoarse with fear. "She knows, and if she finds out... she'll ruin everything."

Bokuto reached for Akaashi, but he flinched away, his mind reeling. "I can't—Bokuto, this is too dangerous. We can't keep doing this."

Bokuto's face crumpled with pain, but he nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I'm so sorry, Keiji. I never wanted this to happen."

Akaashi closed his eyes, trying to block out the overwhelming fear and guilt that threatened to consume him. "You should go, before she comes back."

Bokuto hesitated, but he knew there was no choice. With one last, lingering look, he slipped out the window, disappearing into the early morning light.

Akaashi watched him go, his heart aching with the realization of just how precarious their situation had become. As much as he cared for Bokuto, as much as he wanted to be with him, the reality of his life—of his family—was closing in around him like a vice.

He closed the window and got dressed for school, his mind spinning with thoughts of what his mother might do if she ever found out the full truth. The fear of being caught, of being exposed, was suffocating.

When he arrived at school, Bokuto was waiting for him near their usual spot, his expression still filled with concern. Akaashi forced himself to smile, to act like everything was fine, but inside, he was falling apart.

Bokuto reached for Akaashi's hand, but Akaashi pulled away, the fear of his mother's words still fresh in his mind. "We need to be careful," Akaashi whispered, his voice shaky. "I can't—she'll destroy everything if she finds out."

Bokuto's eyes were filled with pain, but he nodded, understanding the impossible situation they were in. "I'm here for you, Keiji. Whatever you need, I'm here."

Akaashi wanted to believe that, wanted to hold on to Bokuto and never let go. But the fear of what his mother might do was too strong, too overwhelming. For now, all he could do was survive, to keep their secret hidden for as long as possible, and pray that it would be enough.

But deep down, Akaashi knew that this was only the beginning. The walls were closing in, and he was running out of time.
