People say everything can be solved after witnessing a smile from your loved ones, but they don't know how hard it is to smile for your people when all you want to do is just disappear.
Khushi opened her eyes and the first thing she felt is burning ache in her wrists. She tried to sit and when she regained her consciousness fully, everything came crashing down. She looked at her wrists which were mercilessly tortured. She went to her washroom and stood under hot water to wash away all the remnants of the day.
She stood under it for God knows how long, when she heard a knock on her door. She stopped the shower and came out. There was a figure sitting on her bed, "You forgot your notes in the class and Ansh asked me to give it to you" Adwait said without even looking at her. He doesn't know why he insisted on giving her the notes. He turned and his breath hitched, she was standing there bare laid for him.
He couldn't see any trace of the sarcastic girl he came to know. Instead he saw an angel who was here maybe just for him. Khushi also looked at him and found raw emotions in his eyes. And that is the thing which she noticed, not his physical features. Yes he is beautiful, no he is the most beautiful person she has seen but there is just something about him which provides her comfort and safety.
She was staring at him when she heard a throat clear and saw him standing there raising his eyebrows. "Hogya? Toh ye lelo" he told her while smirking. Khushi rolled her eyes at him and went to take the book from him. But while walking towards him she didn't see her rug and her feet got entangled with her.
Adwait saw her falling down and went to hold her to stop her from face palming on the ground. He held her wrist, unfortunately for her it was her injured wrists. She hissed as he held it in firm manner and Adwait's face scrunched. He didn't apply enough pressure to hurt her so he started to pull her sleeves up.
"Kya kar rhe ho? Don't do it" she defensively said. And now Adwait knew something was wrong so he pulled her sleeves up when he gasped. He saw angry slashes marring her skin and knew that it was no accident. It was deliberate and it was her who did this to herself.
Khushi felt naked under his gaze, she cursed herself as she didn't want anyone to know about it. She started leaving from there when she heard him say, "Ek aur kadam badhaya toh mei sidha Bhaiya ko sab bta dunga"
She looked at him with tears in her eyes and saw anger and some thing like hurt in his eyes. She couldn't held his stare so she looked away but stood there. "Kyu?" He asked as he looked at her. He didn't know she did this to herself. He promised him he will look after her but he failed. Looking at those scars filled something ugly in him. It cracked open his chest.
"Kabhi kabhi zinda hona kafi nai hota hai Adwait. Apne dard ko kam krne keliye ya kuch mehsus karne keliye kabhi kabhi kuch karna padhta hai jise koi samaj nai sakta. Adwait mera naam bhale hi Khushi ho par mujhme koi Khushi baaki hi nai hai" she told him with an empty voice. He has never heard talk like this. Never.
"Khushi tum akeli nai ho, tumhara pura parivaar hai tumhare sath. Hum hai. Mei hu damn it" he said frustrated. He didn't know how to help her.
"Mei agar aaj jee rahi hu toh sirf unke liye, warna kabka mar chuki hu mei. Us raat usne mujhse sab kuch cheen liya tha. They have been hurt enough and I can't hurt them anymore" she told him resigned as if she is defeated.
"Tum unhe nai batake aur dard de rhi ho. Nahi mei jake unko sab bta dunga" he determined. "Tumhe Sia ki kasam tum kisiko kuch nai bologe" she told him and he looked at her sharply.
"Kya? Khushi ye thik nai hai mei tumhe ye nai kr ne desakta" he was getting more and more agitated. Flashes of the happy girl he knew were coming in front of him.
