"As a longtime member of the historical society, I am especially proud to be knocking off this day of festivities. Thank you volunteers," Mayor Lockwood says on the microphone. She continues her speech as Alaric, Jeremy and Alexia are standing there looking at her.

"What are we doing here?" Jeremy asks Alaric.

"Tobias Fell is the head of the History Department, I didn't have a choice," Alaric tells them.

"But why bring us?" Alexia asks him.

"Yeah, that explains what you're doing here." Jeremy nods agreeing.

"I'm the one who can fail you if you don't help me out," Alaric tells them.

Elena walks to them, "hey, sorry I'm late. What did I miss?"

"You didn't miss anything," Jeremy says.

"There wasn't anything to miss," Alexia shrugs.

"The first illumination was held in celebration of the newfound prosperity that Mystic Falls enjoyed after the war." Tobias says over the microphone. "The founders, they placed lanterns."

"Whats so funny?" Elena asks after hearing Jeremy chuckles.

He points at Tobias who's still doing his speech.

"He's not funny, at least not like I am."

"Hey, Jer, I need you to help me with something," Elena says to Jeremy and the three siblings and Alaric are at the Grill.

"What's up?"

"I've been going through Stefan's journals. Every single time that he's gone off the rails, Lexi has been the one to bring him back," Elena says.

Alexia's eyes widens, "you want to—?"

"Where is she now that we need her?" Alaric asks.

"Right, you don't know. She's dead, Damon killed her on Stefan's birthday," Alexia informs him.

"And you want me to try to reach her, don't you?" Jeremy asks his oldest sister.

"I thought if I knew how she did it, maybe I could help him," Elena shrugs.

"I don't even know if she's on the other side," Jeremy tells her.

"Is that what's it's called?"

"That's what Anna calls it," Jeremy shrugs. "There's not, like, an official brochure or anything."

"So what is it, like some sort of supernatural purgatory?" Alaric questions.

"And said it's like being here with us, only we can't see her or hear her and she can't interact with anyone," Jeremy explains. "And she's all alone."

"Vicki could interact. She blew up my car," Alaric says.

"Vicki had help from another witch on the other side," Jeremy tells him. "Anna, she's doing this all by herself."
