Two months have passed since the death of Lieve's grandmother and things could not get any more worse. "This has gone on long enough! Five people have already been killed and more will continue to do so if we don't figure out what to do!" Emmet yelled at Piran. Villagers were arguing with each other. Piran breathed out heavily, "And I told you that we need outside help! We can't do this on our own! We need monster hunters!" he argued. A council member protested, "What?! And let those idiots into our home? Absolutely not, if anything they'll make things worse and upset the beast! More people will die!" he stated. A random villager added, "Not only that but no one is going to just willing to leave this village to try to find help from beyond this forest." they said. More and more people tried to add suggestions but each one would backfire in the process.
Mr. Hughes crossed his arms and looked over to Emmet, "I don't know about you but it seems as though that monster gets faster and stronger with each killing it does. If this continues and if we don't do something about this soon then we'll all be dead." he informed. Piran gave a silent nod to Mr. Hughes as to say thanks and looked back at his brother. Emmet clenched his jaw, and Piran lowered his head towards him, "Not only that but people are slowly turning on one another." he whispered to him. Ever since the beast killed its fifth victim, it appeared to gain some sort of intelligence.
Because of its ability to know where the traps are and how it easily maneuvers through the village when they've tried to capture it; people have started to jump to conclusions. Many would accuse others of being the beast. Fear overtakes some individuals to where there would be some people trying to kill one another. Much chaos was so easily created that even you can't trust your own family or friends. Everyone would accuse one another over anything that seemed even the slightest bit of suspicion. Before anyone else could say anything someone spoke above them all.
"I'll go!" Lieve stated. Everyone turned towards her. Piran immediately shook his head, "No! We can't risk..." he was cut off by her giving him a harsh glare. He quieted down and sighed, "I understand, we understand why you would want to do this. But it's too much of a risk." he told her. Lieve stared at the ground; he was right, it was too much of a risk, however...she had no choice. She had to do this. For her own sake, she had to. Lieve shook her head and looked up at Piran, "I need to...my grandmother would've wanted this." she told him. A villager placed a hand on her shoulder, "We understand but your mother wouldn't." they tell her. Another one piped up, "And you're too young! We need you here to help make sure no one else gets hurt. Your medical knowledge is what we need right now in case someone else gets harmed by this thing." they tried to say. Lieve's chest swelled tightly.
Asena watched off in the distance. So many people were trying to convince Lieve to stay and she could see a faint smile at the attention she was getting. She took in a deep breath and sighed through her nose. Asena strolled up to her father and stood next to him, gaining his attention. Other villagers took notice of her presence, "I think it would be for the best to have someone go and try to look for outside help. I don't like the fact that it will be Lieve but as of right now, we need someone like her." she stated.
She smiled at Lieve and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "We need someone willing to risk their own life for everyone else. That is something we need at this moment, someone who we can rely on and place our hopes into." she added. Lieve couldn't believe what she was hearing! Piran hummed, "Lieve." he called out, drawing the young female's attention away from his daughter. He gave her a hard stare, "Are you willing to do this on your own?" he questioned.
Great. Lieve didn't think this all the way through, did she? Lieve swallowed and Asena took notice of how her heartbeat quickened as the realization settled in her stomach. Many people were hoping that she would say yes. Asena smiled, "Someone should go with her just to be safe. We can't risk losing someone else. Especially someone as important as Lieve." she stated. Asena grinned at her, "Which is why I'll..." She was cut off suddenly by the last person she least expected. "I'll go with her," Emmet said as he emerged behind some of the council members.
