Mirha's age : twenty two

— Present wedding day :

My parched mouth feels as dry as if I haven't sipped water in ages.

A gentle hand strokes my hair away, and I slowly open my eyes.

Zara's concerned face gradually becomes clear in my blurry vision, and I hear her voice.

"Mirha! Finally, you're up. Are you okay? How are you feeling?"

I swallow and attempt to sit up, Zara helps me in it, still wearing that deeply worried expression.

I sink my teeth into my lower lip and look at her with guilt.

"Say something." She grips my shoulders.

"I'm sorry. Aren't you mad at me?" I ask slowly, barely above a whisper.

"Bitch, I'll be mad at you once I make sure you're fine. If bhai is my brother, then you are my best friend, Mirha."

Tears well up in my eyes and I throw my arms around her and hug her tightly, burying my face into her shoulder.

"It's okay, you're not alone, everything will be alright. Bhai told me everything." she says, hugging me back and patting my head.

I pull back, my heart racing as I cautiously ask,
"What... what did he tell you?"

"That you were forced to run away by some bastard who has your little sister captive, she's the same little sister of yours, you've been searching for years, right? What was her name? Elena?" I nod at her and she continues.

"Then, how bhai found you, the fruitless search at the location, and his decision to force you to marry him and then lock you in this room—which isn't a very cool move by the way—then your daring stunt—which was utterly foolish, and I won't easily forgive you for that, and then how you fainted because of exhaustion, basically everything."

"He believes..me?" I ask carefully.

"Of course he does."

Just then, the door swings open, and Amir strides in, a bruise marring his face.

I frown looking at him and Zara follows my line of sight.

"Bhai punched his handsome face, thinking he helped you escape." Zara winces.

"What the hell? Your barbaric brother needs to rein in his aggression. Amir was clueless about everything."

"I know, that's why I stepped in quickly." Zara sighs.

"Are you alright?" Amir asks quietly and I manage a small smile, nodding.

"Are you?" I ask him, eyeing his bruise, which looks quite serious. He nods back, thinning his lips.
