I shoot a piercing glare at Zayran as he deliberately slides into the seat next to me, that infuriatingly sweet smile plastered across his face as he flashes it at my parents at every chance he gets, as if he's some sunshine, goofy person who can't help but keep smiling unnecessarily, when he's clearly quite the opposite.
Mom and Dad settles into their seats across from us.
Just then, to my utter surprise, someone I never expected in my wildest dreams burst into the dining hall.
"OMG! Mirha, I can't believe I'm finally seeing you after so long!" Marya's shrill voice echoes through the room as she rushes toward me, wearing a tight, short glittery dress and heels that seem to wobble dangerously with her excitement. I blink in disbelief and glance at Mom, who smiles nervously.
"Ah! I told her you were here," Mom says, her eyes darting between us. She's friends with Marya's mom, and I can't say I'm thrilled about it. I've never liked Marya. When we were kids and would meet at those dull parties, she used to be such a rude, mean girl with that haughty attitude.
"You really became quite famous after that stunt you pulled with your escape! It was actually really cool." She says, and I force a smile in return.
"Thanks, I guess," I reply, trying to mask my irritation. I can't understand why she even bothered to come here, acting as if we're long-lost besties.
"Well, won't you introduce me to your hotshot billionaire husband? I've heard so much about him." And I know why she is here. God, she's such a bitch.
She eyes my husband, shyly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear while fluttering her lashes. I snort.
WWOW! just wow.
I glare at her as hard as I can, trying to block her view of my handsome husband, but she doesn't take the hint to back the fuck off. Instead, she tilts her head, shamelessly checking him out. Is she for real?
I must say, she's got guts to ogle my man right in front of me.
Feeling the tension thick in the air, my mom clears her throat, oblivious to the storm brewing inside me.
"Marya, sweetheart, why don't you join us for dinner?" Oh no, Mom, please don't! Why can't you see she's practically undressing your daughter's husband with her eyes? I scream internally. I know mom's just being polite but I can't myself.
"Of course, I would love to!" Marya squeals, her voice high-pitched and giddy, like a freaking teenager who just got a chance with her crush for the first time.
She practically bounces into the seat right next to Mr. Malik. I'm literally fuming, my blood boiling beneath the surface.
It's okay, Mirha! You don't want to ruin dinner by scratching that fake bitch's face with her own long, nail extension, it's not worth it. Just hold it together for now, and you can deal with her later when you get her alone.
