Jiang Heyan parked the car a street away from the government office. At this time, there were hardly any pedestrians due to the freezing cold. He walked over, heading to meet with a leader who was his distant relative. However, since his mother had passed away, this distant relative was extremely distant, and Jiang Heyan had rarely seen him.

Given that it was late when Jiang Heyan left Moon Bay Village and he was delayed at the hospital, he figured the government office would be closing soon.

He quickened his pace, and Town Mayor He was just pouring a cup of tea. His eyelid twitched, and he wondered if it was a sign of a distinguished visitor coming.

As he was lost in thought, he accidentally drank the tea leaves. Town Mayor He spat them out onto the ground with a "Pah!" sound.

When the door was knocked, Town Mayor He hurriedly covered the tea cup and pretended to be busy, not looking up as he said, "Come in."

Jiang Heyan opened the door, and Town Mayor He assumed it was one of his subordinates. "What's the matter? Hurry up and speak."

"Town Mayor He, I'm Jiang Heyan from the Moon Bay Village mine. I've come to report on the situation at the mine."

Town Mayor He's forehead twitched. He quickly looked up and immediately recognized Jiang Heyan as the son of his niece.

Town Mayor He stood up quickly, "Young Jiang, come, sit down."

The town mayor's office was quite simple, with just a desk, two chairs, and a small table with a warm jug. Apart from that, there was nothing else.

Jiang Heyan's presence seemed to contrast sharply with the simplicity of the office. Town Mayor He personally poured him a cup of water, and Jiang Heyan thanked him.

Town Mayor He patted Jiang Heyan's shoulder, "There's no need to be so polite. Even though we haven't met often, there's plenty of family affection."

He spoke sincerely. The He family had more sons than daughters, and by the time Jiang Heyan's mother came along, she was the only daughter. So, Town Mayor He and the other male relatives were always taught to be considerate of their sister.

Although they weren't siblings, the bond formed growing up together made them see each other as very close family.

Jiang Heyan's initial awkwardness gradually faded under Town Mayor He's casual conversation. Town Mayor He started chatting about family matters.

"How's your father?"

Jiang Heyan wasn't sure how to respond. His father was doing well, and he even found a new girlfriend. But Jiang Heyan didn't want to mention this to his uncle, as it made him feel uncomfortable, as if he had done something wrong in the eyes of his deceased mother.

Town Mayor He noticed his discomfort and smiled, "Is it Yue Lina by his side now?"

Yue Lina, who was two years older than Jiang Heyan, used to be Jiang Wangquan's secretary and was now about to become Jiang Heyan's stepmother.

Jiang Heyan looked at Town Mayor He in surprise but then realized that Jiang Wangquan, who was often away for business, was always accompanied by Yue Lina. It wasn't surprising that Town Mayor He knew about it.

Town Mayor He, on the other hand, took it all in stride. He sighed, "Your mother passed away early. It's your father's choice whether or not to find a new partner."

"I knew about Yue Lina a few years ago," Town Mayor He recalled, "Back then, your dad was handling the mine procedures. He treated us to a meal, and Yue Lina got us all quite drunk."
