Li Shengnan only heard Zhijiao shouting something, and then her mother charged forward like a madwoman.

As annoying as Zhao Weiran was, she was still her mother. Li Shengnan was still angry, but seeing her mother ready to fight, she quickly ran after her.

Zhijiao pulled Jiang Heyan back a few steps. Zhao Weiran had already arrived, looking anxiously at Zhijiao. "Who? Who wants money?"

Zhijiao pointed with her little hand. "It's her. She's Liu Qingyang's aunt. Liu Qingyang caused the mine collapse, but now they're twisting the facts and blaming the mine for his death. They've brought people to stir up trouble."

Lan Cuihua looked at Zhao Weiran. She was from the old Zhao family and had been married off decades ago. Lan Cuihua often bad-mouthed her in private. She looked good, but she just got lucky marrying someone from the city. The two locked eyes, neither willing to back down.

Lan Cuihua, having her true intentions exposed, stopped pretending. Hands on her hips, she retorted aggressively, "My nephew died at their mine. Who else am I supposed to ask for compensation? If I don't get any money, how is Liu Qingyang's mother supposed to live alone?"

She spoke with such conviction that it sounded like she was genuinely compassionate and eager to seek justice.

Jiang Heyan thought about getting the documents from the car. If necessary, he could call in witnesses.

But as he turned his head, he saw a man sneaking over to the car, trying to open the door.

Ever since Jiang Heyan mentioned the documents were in the car, Zhijiao had been on guard.

During her acting days, she had learned to use a slingshot for a role. The small leather slingshot Zhu Qiang bought for her at the market was already on her fingers. She released a stone, and it flew straight to the man's forehead.

Zhijiao wasn't super strong, so there was no way the hit would cause serious injury, but it was enough to make the man stop.

The village chief, holding onto his torn jacket, walked over. "What are you doing? Trying to steal something?"

Jiang Heyan's eyes widened. He had thought that explaining things and showing the evidence would be enough, but it was clear these people never intended to reason with him from the start.

Zhijiao patted his arm thoughtfully, "Still too naive. You can't reveal your trump card. Let them make a fuss, and when it all comes to light, present the evidence and have them all sent away. Isn't that better?"

Lan Cuihua flinched slightly and glared at Shi Jiaojiao. "Do you dare? Do you believe I'll come to your house and throw urine?"

"Oh, come on," Shi Jiaojiao responded fearlessly. "I'm just trying to help Boss Jiang. Maybe he'll be so grateful that he'll get us a new house."

Zhao Weiran rolled her eyes, thinking this was absurd.

"Nan Nan, take Boss Jiang to Auntie's house and wait for Mom," Zhao Weiran was determined to matchmake her daughter with Jiang Heyan and deal with Lan Cuihua herself, without letting her trouble her future son-in-law.

Li Shengnan, burdened with bags and looking confused, was reassured by Shi Jiaojiao, who took her hand. "Let's go, let's go. Auntie is so capable; it'll be fine. Let's head home."

Jiang Heyan, now clear-headed, understood Shi Jiaojiao's unspoken instructions. He quickly opened the door, ushered the village head in, and closed the door in one smooth motion.
