Chapter 17

About an hour into Homecoming, my complaining intensified. It ended up being lame, like I'd assumed. It was just a bunch of sweaty teenagers grinding on each other.

"Come on, let's at least stay for the choosing of King and Queen. I was nominated for King, remember? I might win," Scott urged.

I rolled my eyes, "Great, and if you do you have to slow dance with some female who's probably really attractive. And in your questioning of your sexuality, you'll fall hopelessly in love with her at first sight and leave me," I explained in an over dramatic tone.

"Yes, that is completely realistic, and it's gonna happen," Scott retorted sarcastically.

I gave him an annoyed look.

"I'm joking. My loyalty lies with you. And no matter who wins, you're still my queen," he assured me.

I smiled up at him, "You're such a sap," I pointed out.

"You love it," he quipped before pecking me on the lips.

"Alright guys and girls, it's the moment you've all been waiting for," the school president, Tyler, announced into the microphone.

The music silenced as people started murmuring excitedly.

"All of the votes are in, for our Homecoming King, and Homecoming Queen," he added, "Can I get a drum roll?" He inquired as he held a simple envelope.

Everyone, including Scott started hitting their legs, mimicking a drum roll.

"Your Homecoming King is..." he started as he pulled a piece of paper out of the envelope and unfolded it. "Scott Hoying!" He announced.

People started clapping and cheering as Scott gaped in shock. I wanted to be happy for him, but this meant he was going to dance with some attractive female. Normally people deny their jealousy, but not me...I was jealous.

Another member of student council grabbed him by the hand and dragged him into the middle of the circle, before putting the crown upon his head.

"Alright alright, settle down, now it's time to announce our Queen," Tyler announced and everyone quieted again.

He looked at the paper again, "Oh my god. According to the votes, our Queen is actually a King..." he stated, sounding a little confused.

I furrowed my eyebrows and saw several people giggling and looking towards me.

Did they really...?

"Mitch Grassi!" Tyler announced.

Everyone started cheering again and watching me. Just a week ago everyone hated me, and now they voted me as Homecoming King?

"Come on," Scott urged from inside of the circle.

I swallowed nervously before entering the circle. The vice president of student council went to crown me, but Scott stopped her and gave her a dorky smile. She smiled back before handing him the crown.

He turned towards me and I smiled sheepishly as he put the crown on my head.

"I thought everyone hated me," I murmured to the vice president, Lisa.

"What you tried to do for Braden turned some people, and then your comment to Eric turned more people," she explained.

I glanced at all of the people smiling at me, and felt the urge to cry. What didn't help was Brianna emerging from the crowd and approaching me.
