*Inspired by Chicago Fire S7 Ep.15 What I saw, and Chicago PD S6 Ep.15. Good men
"Okay everybody gather around," Hank spoke as soon as he walked up the stairs. We all got up coming closer to the board where we'd been investigating a case involving frequent robberies around the city.
"This morning C.F.D responded to a fire inside a building and when inspecting the firehouse lockbox found the keys were missing," Voight explained.
My head fell back as I started piecing things together. "A firefighter," I spoke. Hank meeting my eyes in understanding.
"We have reason to believe this is connected to the robberies across the city, each building that has been hit has had a firehouse lockbox and that information is the kind someone from the C.F.D would have." Voight finished.
"The timing also fits with the hours of the CFD second shift." Jay pointed out, causing me to meet his eyes in offense.
"There's no way someone's doing it on shift." I got defensive.
"No, but they could be passing on the keys to someone so they can carry out the robbery," Hailey suggested to which Hank nodded in agreement.
"Look I know you're close to the C.F.D. which is why you, me, and Halstead are heading to Firehouse 51 asking them to work with us, help us find who's behind all of this," Hank spoke to me.
"An informant?" I wasn't fond of the idea but I would also be a fool not to admit this was probably the best way to carry this out.
"Exactly. I have Joe Cruz in mind but I'll need your help to convince them." Hank explained.
"Boss with all due respect I don't think Cruz is the right person...after what happened with his brother-" I tried to explain.
"That's exactly why. We've worked with him, we know we can trust him." Hank interrupted a tone of finality to his voice.
I knew he would do this with or without me so instead hesitantly nodded.
"Good, the rest of you look for more connections between the robberies and the C.F.D. Let's try to narrow our suspects down," Hank instructed the rest of the team as Jay and I grabbed our coats ready to head out.

"We wanna send one of your guys to engine 66," Jay explained as we stood before Casey, Kelly, Chief Boden, and Grissom.
"No way!" Kelly immediately shut us down as we mentioned Cruz.
I was struggling to meet his eyes knowing he would've hoped I would be against all of this.
"Joe Cruz it is." Grissom gave us the go-ahead after we explained why yet Kelly was still very much against all of this.
"Woah! He's one of my best guys, you're not just going to use him as a pawn in whatever pissing match you got into with the police commissioner." Kelly refuted.
"Kelly-" I tried to reason with him hoping to calm him down but he simply met my eyes with anger.
"No! You're messing with my men just because you can't do your job right." Kelly snapped at me.
"Hey, easy man." Jay tried stepping in.
Kelly shoved Jay's hand away brushing past me and out of the room.
I took a breath and Voight finished up before heading out in silence.
"Hey, he'll get over it okay?" Jay spoke to me as we entered the car to return to the precinct.
"He was so angry Jay, and he was right we don't exactly have the best history with Cruz and his family and we're asking for their help again?" I scolded myself.
"He was too harsh baby. He just lost his dad, Stella broke up with him and now all of this is just making him act like a dick to you." Jay tried comforting me.
"I'll try to talk to him later, hopefully he cools off." I hated to leave things like this between Kelly and me, especially considering our line of work.
"You sure that's a good idea?" Jay asked me and I knew he just wanted to stop me from getting hurt.
I turned to look at him, a clear concern in his eyes. "I'll be fine, I just want to clear things up with him." I reached for Jay's hand which he gladly accepted.

Things didn't go smoothly. My talk with Kelly had made things worse catching him after a bad call. Suggs was found dead and after trying to get answers from his wife we were kicked out and heavily judged by the firefighters. I felt bad enough as it is but having a group I considered family turn on me so quickly had taken me by surprise.
I was upset, angry, frustrated. This was the last thing I wanted to happen but at the same time I wish the guys at 51 at least would've understood this was all in an attempt to catch a bad guy instead of pinning that role on us.
"Baby you okay?" Jay made me jump as he came up behind me as I sat in the locker room trying to take a breather after the case.
"Yeah. Fine." I lied knowing well enough if anyone knew I wasn't fine it would be my husband.
Jay sat behind me on the bench pulling me into his chest. I happily rested my head back against his shoulder. I felt him place kisses on my temple and cheek.
"I know you're feeling a lot right now so I won't push." He whispered to me. "But talk to me okay? Don't shut out on me." He hugged me tighter.
I knew he was right. So I nodded after letting out a big sigh. I might've felt like everyone was turning against me right now but that didn't include Jay, never him.
"I love you." I turned around burying into Jay's chest.
"I love you more." He hugged me tightly again and tilted my chin up to place a sweet kiss on my lips. "Let me take you home." He kissed me again.
A calm smile decorated my lips. "Please do." Jay's heart warmed at seeing your smile, as it always did. This case had also touched him, especially with Sugg's wife and the kid involved but he knew together you'd get past it. Together you could get past anything.
