Dearest James,
If you must know, I too am lost in your absence, and I find it impossible to believe that you suffer with this more than I do.
Knowing I was not, and never will be, eligible to join you on the front lines has dragged me down to the depths of the sea alongside you. I attempted to enlist again in the hope that we might at least be together, but to no avail.
I do hope you make friends there, James. It should be awfully dreadful without them. Perhaps think of your own sanity as you attempt to make friends next time, and less of how much they resemble myself.
As for what I do in your absence... forgive me, but nothing has filled the void you left in my life thus far.
Sincerely,
Steven
