Dear James,

I initially read your message in a hurry and nearly picked a fight with the mail carrier when your letter did not arrive as promptly as I had anticipated.

To be frank, you had me worried that I had frightened you away- or worse. I will have you know, however, that your reply was by no interpretation overstepping. If you should like to read what it might look like to overstep, search no further:

Have I yet mentioned the many dreams of mine in which you have been present? If your letter (two prior) was wicked, then these dreams are certainly dastardly.

Ever Your Affectionate Friend,
Steven

P.S. I appreciate your birthday wishes, and I dearly wish you had only been close enough to enjoy the day by my side.
