After the grimoire ceremony, Y/n stayed at the church with the others. During his time there he came to know everyone closer, including Asta, who became his best friend. After all, even though they were different ages, they did have....similar brain capacities. Y/n wasn't stupid, but rather naive, which made the two of them a force to be reckoned with, bonding over the simple things in life that amazed them to no end.
On the other hand, y/n and Yuno had grown closer in another sense. While Asta and Y/n bonded like little kids at school, Y/n and Yuno's relationship was a bit more complex.
During their time training together and hanging out, each of them had a weight on their shoulders that they wanted to get rid of.
Y/n, had constantly been biting his tongue, wanting to ask Yuno why he had abandoned him all those years ago, but he was scared that if he did he would offend him and make him angry.
Yuno on the other hand, had been struggling with his feelings, and wondering if, even though Y/n seemed fine, he was angry at him for leaving.
Then one day while the two of them were walking near the edge of the forest, looking for a place to spar, the silence finally broke.
"Yuno-"
"Y/n-"
The two of them started to talk, cutting each other off as they stop in their tracks staring at each other. Yuno gazing down at the short male next to him, and Y/n gazing back up at him.
There was a momentary silence between the two as they both waited for the other to speak, but eventually Y/n decided to cut in.
"Go ahead, Yuno" his voice was soft and kind as it had always been, and that evident kindness pulled at Yunos heart even more as he prepared to ask the question he's been dreading for so long.
"Y/n......are you....mad at me? For leaving you all those years ago..." even though his face still held his stoic expression his voice gave away a semblance of fear for what the white haired boy would say in return.
"Of course not!" Y/n said with a cheerful smile, still gazing up at Yuno with nothing but adoration and care. As soon as those words left Y/n's mouth Yuno felt a feeling of relief and happiness he didn't think was possible. "But, I do wish I knew why." When Y/n finished his sentence, Yuno realized that he owed it to him to explain......eventually.
"Y/n..."his voice calm as he gazed down at him, placing his hand on his soft hair. "I know this selfish of me to ask, and I know that you deserve to truth, but I'm not quite ready to tell you.....could you wait...please?" He felt his breath hitch as his hand wavered, awaiting the boys answer.
"I'll wait as long as I have to, to the end of time!" Y/n looked up at him with the sweetest smile imaginable. It looked like he was radiating light and Yuno could feel Al his worry and fear just melt away.
"I'll wait for you till the end of time Yuno, and I will do so much more. You deserve the world, and I want to give it to you"
Yuno couldn't help but smile as he hugged the boy pulling him into his chest. "I already have it...."
After that, the two of them ventured into the woods, hand in hand, sparing past sunset into the dark of the night. Both of them having only one thought in mind. 'If only we could stay like this.'
Some time later
Currently, Y/n was at the church helping with the chores while Asta and Yuno were who knows where. Y/n didn't really pay it any mind since both of them tended to do their own thing, but as he was hanging the clothes up he couldn't get rid of the sinking feeling that something was wrong, like they were in danger.
He chose to shake it off and focus on the chores, trying to bury this dreadful feeling.
While he was doing this, Nash apparently noticed his distressed demeanor.
"Hey, Y/n, you okay?" Nash's voice broke him out of his concentration and he turned to the little boy with a smile.
"Yup, just lost in thought."
Meanwhile, with Yuno and Asta. The two of them were currently getting attacked by a mage who wielded chain magic. He had was attempting to take Yuno's grimoire and currently had Asta hurt and pinned to a wall.
After the fight
When the brothers made their way to the church everyone held worry for their battered state, but none more than the boy who knew something was wrong.
Y/n ran to the two, panicking at their wounds, regardless of how they tried to reassure him they were fine.
"Here, stay still" he said to Asta and Yuno as he stood on his tip toes(cause Yuno was too tall) and put his hands on top of their heads, his grimoire with the white leaf floating behind him.
"Heavens light, angels touch" he said softly as his hands glowed, a white light enveloping the two as all their wounds healed. Once they were fully recovered, y/n stepped back and looked at them for a minute before growing and hugging the two of them, surprising them both.
"I'm so sorry I wasnt there to protect you!" When he said this, both of them couldn't help but smile. Yuno put his hand on Y/ns head, and Asta hugged him back.
After that, Asta went on to explain how he received a five leaf grimoire, and an anti-magic sword that allows him to cancel or reflect any spell. Everyone at the church was happy for him, and Asta was ecstatic.
Later that night, Asta was sitting outside the church while everyone slept, admiring his grimoire and looking up at the stars.
"Hey wonder boy...." A soft voice said from behind him. Y/n emerged from the church, walking next to him and setting down.
"Hey y/n, why aren't you asleep?" Asta asked while setting his grimoire down and looking at the white haired boy.
"I could ask you the same"y/n said while chuckling.
The two of them laughed and looked up at the stars, enjoying each others company. Both of them had large revelations that, both completely different, and they changed because of it, even if only slightly.
"I'm proud of you...Asta" y/n said while resting his head on Asta's shoulder, a soft sigh escaping his lips as he gazes up at the stars.
The two of them stayed like that till the sun came up.
Present day
Today's the day. The day the three boys from Hage village head to the capital for the royal knights exam. The day....their lives begin.
