________________________________________________The next morning, Nirmay woke up with a groan, the pounding in his head reminding him of the previous night’s excesses. He rubbed his eyes, trying to shake off the fogginess, and the first thing he noticed was Vanika, standing by the dresser, calmly combing her hair. The sight of her was comforting, but the realization of the time sent a jolt of panic through him.
"Tum itni jaldi uth gayi?" he asked, his voice hoarse as he held his aching head.
[Did you wake up so early?]
Vanika turned to him, an amused smile playing on her lips. "Ji nahi... aap late se uthe hain," she said, pointing at the clock on the wall. His eyes followed her gesture, and they widened in disbelief.
[No... you woke up late.]
"Itni der tak kaise... ek minute," he muttered, trying to piece together his memories from the night before. "How did I reach here? Ham toh bachelor's party me the... phir Adarsh, Adu, Ayu ko nashe hone lage toh we carried them..."
[How did it get so late... one minute.]
He trailed off, his mind drawing a frustrating blank.
"Phir?" Vanika prompted, watching him with a mixture of amusement and concern.
[Then?]
"Yaad nahi aa raha hai yaar... my head is aching!" he groaned, hissing in pain as he rubbed his temples.
"Drink this first," Vanika said, handing him a glass of lemonade. "Aur kal aap sab pee ke talli ho rakhe the. You all were dancing in the middle of the road."
[And yesterday, you all got drunk. You were dancing in the middle of the road.]
Nirmay’s eyes widened further as he took the glass from her. "What? I mean... mai kya itna drunk tha? God, why can't I remember anything!"
[What? I mean... was I that drunk?]
Vanika couldn't help but chuckle at his panic. "‘Drunk’ is a small word. Lag toh aisa raha tha jaise koi rare jungali maal phook ke aaye ho sabke sab," she said, shaking her head at the memory of their antics.
[‘Drunk’ is an understatement. It looked like you guys were high on some rare wild stuff.]
Nirmay quickly sat up in bed, his expression shifting from confusion to outright worry. "Vani... maine kuch... galat toh nahi kiya? I mean... usually I always remain sober after drinking but kal ka toh I don't even remember anything. Tum samajh rahi ho na? Did... did I force you... thoda bahot hi sahi... but did I?"
[Vani... did I do something... wrong? I mean... I usually stay sober after drinking, but I don't remember anything from yesterday. Do you understand? Did... did I force you... even a little... but did I?]
His voice was filled with nervousness, and Vanika’s heart softened at his concern. She put down her comb and walked over to him, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Aapko lagta hai? You can't even think about doing anything wrong even in your dreams," she said, her voice gentle yet firm, dispelling his fears. "Aur aap log ne jo jo kiya woh toh you will see yourself. Ab jaldi pi ke ready hoke neeche aaiye."
