The library is quiet, the kind of quiet that makes you aware of every sound—the rustle of pages turning, the soft hum of the air conditioning, the distant footsteps of someone wandering through the stacks. We've taken over one of the large tables near the back, our books, laptops, and notebooks spread out in a chaotic sprawl that only we could navigate.
I'm hunched over my notes, trying to focus on the dense material in front of me, but my mind keeps wandering. It doesn't help that Dio is sitting across from me, fiddling with her pen in that way that I know means she's getting bored. And when Dio gets bored, things tend to get... unpredictable.
"Hey," she says suddenly, her voice cutting through the silence. "Did you guys know that the average person thinks about sex every seven seconds?"
I nearly choke on the sip of coffee I just took, glaring at her over the rim of my cup. "Dio, we're in a library," I hiss, trying to keep my voice down. "And we're supposed to be studying."
Lia, sitting next to me with her neat rows of color-coded notes, looks up with wide eyes. "Is that true?" she asks, her curiosity piqued. "Seven seconds seems... excessive."
"Totally true," Dio replies with a grin, clearly pleased with herself. "It's a scientific fact. I read it somewhere."
I roll my eyes, knowing full well that Dio's version of "reading it somewhere" could mean anything from a reputable study to a random meme she saw on Instagram. "Can we please focus? We have exams coming up, and I, for one, am not planning on failing."
Rora, who's been silently flipping through a fashion magazine while occasionally glancing at her notes, looks up and smirks. "Come on, Adri. You know Dio's just trying to make studying more... entertaining."
"By talking about sex?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. "Some of us are trying to concentrate here."
Dio shrugs, unapologetic. "Just trying to keep things interesting. Besides, it's not like we're going to remember all this stuff anyway."
Lia giggles softly, her cheeks turning a little pink. "Maybe not, but we should at least try. Theo would be so disappointed if I didn't at least give it my best shot."
I glance over at Lia, who's still smiling to herself, probably thinking about her boyfriend. It's hard to stay annoyed when she's around, her positivity is contagious. "Fine," I sigh, leaning back in my chair. "But can we at least keep the conversation... somewhat appropriate? We're in public, after all."
"Public?" Rora scoffs, gesturing around the mostly empty library. "There's, like, five other people in here, and they're all too busy with their own stuff to care."
"Still," I say, not willing to budge on this. "Let's just keep it down, okay?"
I think I'm sex deprived cause I never pay attention in studying.
Dio rolls her eyes but nods, giving me a mock salute. "Yes, ma'am. No more sex talk. For now."
"Thank you," I mutter, turning back to my notes, though I can't help the small smile that tugs at my lips. As much as Dio's antics can drive me up the wall, I'd be lying if I said I didn't secretly enjoy the chaos she brings into our lives.
