The sun was starting to dip low, casting this warm, golden glow over the park as we sprawled out on the grass. Nick's oldest sister, Amara, sat across from me, her gaze curious but with that calm, collected vibe she always carried. Eros was lounging next to me, that quiet confidence of his making it hard to believe he was only 14. He was so different from Katerina's wild energy; he had that silent, observant thing going on, but you could tell he was sharp.I leaned back, grinning as I pulled a small stash out of my bag. "So... I brought these," I said, holding up the blunts, a mischievous glint in my eyes. Both of their faces lit up, though Amara raised an eyebrow, giving me a half-amused, half-scolding look.
"Aren't we technically not allowed to do this?" Amara asked, smirking as she took one anyway.
I shrugged, laughing. "Technically, yes. But, I mean, both our dads started doing this stuff at 13, and they turned out just fine... well, mostly."
Eros laughed quietly, taking one of the blunts from me. "Yeah, Dad would freak if he knew, but he did so much worse at my age," he muttered, giving me a wink before lighting up.
We all took turns lighting up, passing the blunts around, and it felt like this little rebellion in the middle of the park—a reminder that we weren't exactly the goody-two-shoes our parents probably pretended we were.
As the smoke started swirling around us, we sank deeper into the grass, talking about everything and nothing at the same time. Amara started telling stories about her wild college days, and even Eros was throwing in his own observations, way too mature for his age but hilarious with that dry humor of his.
"You know," I said, taking another drag, "I didn't expect you two to be this fun. I mean, Nick's so serious half the time."
Amara snorted, rolling her eyes. "Nick just acts serious. Believe me, he was a terror when he was younger. All that brooding is just his way of pretending he's too cool to hang."
Eros chuckled, shaking his head. "He still thinks he's too cool to hang. That's why he's always rolling his eyes at us."
We all burst out laughing, the smoke and the evening air making everything feel a little lighter, a little less real. I felt a warmth in my chest—not just from the blunt, but from being here with them, getting to know them in a way that wasn't filtered by Nick or by family dinners. Just the three of us, kicking back, sharing secrets, and laughing about the world.
