SIMPHIWE
Simphiwe: "But I miss you."
Kgomotso: "Simphiwe, you just called me an hour ago! Bathong wena!" She says laughing.
This thing of her living peaceful in Limpopo while I suffer with these annoying twins of mine is not on. I miss her a lot. If I had my drivers license, I would drive all the way to Seshego right now. I'd do anything to see her and avoid these annoying twins. But at least Aunty Velephi is here guarding these monkeys.
Simphiwe: "But how is Seshego?"
Kgomotso: "Ah well, same as I left it. At least now I can watch the TV programmes I used to watch and not those boring movies they put on at school." I laugh.
By the sounds of it she's enjoying herself.
Kgomotso: "And the twins, how are they?"
Simphiwe: "Don't ask me about those monkeys." She laughs uncontrollably until I laugh too.
Kgomotso: "How old are those girls?"
Simphiwe: "They're 10."
Kgomotso: "I'm sure they'll grow out of it by the time they're 13." She sighs.
I know that sigh. She's about to ask a serious question.
Kgomotso: "How is it living with your mom?"
Simphiwe: "It's actually nice, hey. I can see she's really trying and she's become more active."
Kgomotso: "She's getting to know you?"
Simphiwe: "Yeah."
I'm conflicted with myself right now. I don't know whether I should tell her that Lindiwe's coming today. I've always felt some tension between the two of them though they've never interacted. I can't explain it but there's tension when it comes to this topic.
Kgomotso: "So... what's today's plans? Are you going to see your friends or what?"
Simphiwe: "Well there is that and I'm going shopping with Aunt Velephi and also uhm..." Argh!
I can't get it out!
Kgomotso: "What?"
And she really won't let it go. Here goes nothing...
Simphiwe: "Lindiwe's coming to visit."
Kgomotso: "Oh?" I can tell by that tone that she doesn't like hearing this. "For just a day or..."
Simphiwe: "For the rest of the holidays."
Silence.
Kgomotso: "Hm. O-kay then."
Simphiwe: "Babe. Talk to me. You don't like hearing this, do you?"
Kgomotso: "What can I say? It's not like I have a say in this."
Simphiwe: "And if you want to know, it was all our parents' idea. My mom planned this without my knowledge and she told me a while back."
Kgomotso: "So you had no say?" She sounds annoyed.
Maybe I should drop this topic before I make her angry. It can get really sour when she's angry. We've been dating for almost two months and I know how she can get she's like this though it's only been through calls.
I take a silent deep breath.
Simphiwe: "Should we call later on?"
Kgomotso: "Sure." She's annoyed.
