SIMPHIWE
I know my cousin can be weird and very random, but this was so unexpected. Especially coming from a guy like him. He hasn't told his mom yet but I know that when he does, she might do something crazy. That's Thobile Lydia Pholoba for you.
Kgomotso: "Let's go."
She says closing the door of the car. I'm taking her to my mom's for the weekend. My mom has been asking non-stop for her to come. She's practically family. We had to pay Lombard good money for this to happen, but if anything happens, my mother will take care of it. My mother is a lawyer after all. Even Bonolo likes her though she's met her once. She's never introduced me to hers and I understand why. Things are... I don't know. All I know is that it's not the right time to meet her family as yet, and side note, she's never met my father's side either.

Mama: "Hello Motso!"
Kgomotso: "Ma'Nto! Le kae?"
Mama: "Ke gabotse, lena?"
Kgomotso: "Le rena re teng. Your Pedi is actually really good, Ma."
Mama: "Thank you!"
My phone rings. It's Sihle.
Simphiwe: "I have to take this, I'm coming back."
KGOMOTSO
That's all he's ever done lately; study, write and drive around at this very young age of his. The last time I was here was the weekend before our first final exam. It was a full house, with Simphiwe's aunts, Velephi and Ayanda. Sometimes I can't tell who is who because they almost look like twins. I'm sure the Hadebe genes are very strong. Simphiwe even looks like his mother.
"Hey!" I turn around and it's Bonolo.
Kgomotso: "Hey!"
She gives me a hug. The Bonolo Simphiwe talked about and the Bonolo I met are two different people.
Ntombele: "I'll put your bags in Bonolo's room. You know you and Phiwe can't sleep in same room, right?"
Kgomotso: "Yes ma." I know that.
"Hey Motso." It's Aunty Ayanda.
Kgomotso: "Hello Aunty."
Simphiwe mentioned that she lives with them but didn't tell me why.
I follow Bonolo to the backyard, and I must say, I'm sure they bought the biggest house in this estate. This yard is the size of a golf course. Now I actually believe my friends when they say that Simphiwe's family is filthy rich. How do they stay this humble though? This family is not the in-your-face type and maybe that's why Simphiwe is the way he is.
Bonolo: "The last time you came here, I never got to ask you this, but how are you even with a person like Simphiwe?"
Kgomotso: "What do you mean?"
Bonolo: "Like he's so weird. Like, he listens to the most random and boring artists, he wears the same thing just in different colours and he's always busy. How do you do it?"
I laugh. It's true. Simphiwe still wears his beany and hoodies. I need to get him out of that so he could be more versatile. I'll never get over that tuxedo he wore for his matric dance two months ago though. It looked so good on him that I didn't want him to take it off.
As for his music taste, that I can't change. If he loves Sade and Kanye West, then he loves them. There's nothing he can do about it, plus I also like Sade. Something about their music that's just soulful.
