Kickin Chicken stared down at the phone in his hand, and the contact he had on it. Memories flooded back to him. The contact was Hoppy Hopscotch, a mint-coloured bunny who had previously been his girlfriend...before they'd broken up.

And yet Kickin hadn't deleted her number. It had been over a year since the two had split up, and he still had that contact on him. It didn't help that it was looked down upon. And it was all because of his parents. His strict parents. They had initially loved him forever, and brought him up the best way they could. However, once he started going out and playing, as any child would, they grew displeased with his love of skateboarding and the development of his signature cool and hip exterior, despite the fact that he scared easily underneath that. His parents wanted him to live a simple life, with none of what Kickin had developed. They still cared for him, of course, but over time, Kickin's relationship with his parents became strained.

His parents were even more troubled when Kickin met Hoppy when he was aged 16. He'd met her at a nightclub that his parents had taken him to, when Hoppy approached him and asked to sit with him. It ended up blossoming into love, and they started dating. On Hoppy's side, she was fine. Her parents loved Kickin! On Kickin's side however, his parents were not so keen. They asked what Kickin saw in Hoppy, and he said "A motivated and loving girl," to which his parents shook their heads.

Knowing that they weren't going to get used to Hoppy, he didn't go telling them about what happened when they did date, and instead went up to his bedroom to contemplate what had happened on it. But even he couldn't hold back the brilliance of his first kiss with Hoppy. His parents noticed that something was up, and Kickin had to fess up. Upon hearing that he and Hoppy had kissed, they ordered him to break up with her, or they'd cast him out. Adding to that, they made him promise not to see her in any way.

Reluctantly, Kickin conceded to their wishes, and they broke up. Kickin told Hoppy the reason why, which left her especially saddened. Not at Kickin, of course, but at them being forced to call off their love.

Bitterness filled Kickin's heart as he continued to look at Hoppy's contact, this time at her contact's profile picture.

As such, Kickin had still had photos of him and her on his phone that his parents didn't know about. But when he uploaded them onto the PC his parents had got for his 12th birthday, they walked in on him, and, well, if they were displeased at his first kiss, it was nothing compared to this. Having not known of this until the year after Kickin and Hoppy broke up, they were pretty annoyed at that. He was promptly cast out of the house, and left with only his phone and his wallet. This had led to where he was right now.

He was slumped on a sack of flour outside a restaurant. It made a convenient place for someone who couldn't afford to go in and watch the world go by. His days like that had been anything but enjoyable. Unable to find work and earn money, he had to scavenge for food scraps left by other people.

Then, on the first day on the tenth month of being here, in the heavy rain, he saw a familiar mint green rabbit sit down on a bench on the opposite side of the street. Kickin recognised her immediately. It was Hoppy. And she was not happy at all. Her face was buried in her hands, and through the sound of rain hammering down, Kickin could hear...sobbing?

Now Kickin wasn't one to leave his former lover to suffer in silence, so he got up from the sack he was slumped on and walked over to Hoppy.
"Hey,is everything alright?" Kickin asked.
"I...don't really want to talk right now," Hoppy replied.
"Listen...I've never seen you like this before, Hops," Kickin tried again.
Then it clicked in Hoppy's mind. She knew only one person who'd ever called her by that besides her parents. She looked up at Kickin and he saw her soaked eyes.
"K...Kickin...but I... thought you..." Hoppy stuttered, a little confused at her former boyfriend who was trying to cheer her up.
"I didn't break up of my own will. My parents made me do it," Kickin told her. "Now, what's the matter?"
"I've just had my heart crushed," Hoppy revealed. "I was at the same nightclub I met you in, and was with another boy who was ready to start a relationship with me, only to leave me behind for another girl. I then left, crying."
Kickin was especially saddened at that. "Listen, Hops, you shouldn't be out here in the cold. Can I walk you home?" Kickin asked.
"Please do," Hoppy pleaded. "I just... I just really need someone with me right now."
Kickin took Hoppy's paw, a feeling he hadn't felt for what felt like forever flooding back to him, as well as Hoppy, and he started to walk her back home. After arriving, Kickin said "Well, I guess I'll see you around, Hops."
"No, Kickin. Please...don't leave yet," Hoppy replied. Kickin was slightly confused by this, but came inside Hoppy's house.

Once inside, the rain lashing against the windows, Kickin asked "Where are your parents?"
"They've gone out of town for a few days," Hoppy answered. "They'll be back soon."
Hoppy went to her bedroom and invited Kickin to sit on the bed with her.
"Kickin, I don't blame you for breaking up with me...but, I really, really miss you," Hoppy said.
"Me too, Hoppy, me too," Kickin admitted.
"But... would you be willing to start again...with me?" Hoppy asked.
Kickin felt like a blessing had been cast upon him as Hoppy said that.
"I would LOVE to start again with you!" he exclaimed. "I have nowhere to call home right now, but I mostly just want to be here...with you."

And with that, Kickin and Hoppy leaned forward and their lips met in an  kiss that Kickin and Hoppy had been wishing for ever since they broke up. They frequently dreamed about it, but now that it was actually happening, they just couldn't believe it. Hoppy slowly placed her paws around Kickin's neck, while feeling Kickin gently stroke Hoppy's ears, while his other hand was around her waist, holding her close to him.

Soon, their lungs desired air. Neither wanted it, but they needed air, so Hoppy and Kickin begrudgingly broke the kiss for air.
"You'll have to tell your parents that you're back with me," Kickin said.
"Don't worry, I will," Hoppy reassured him. "And you can stay here for as long as you need it. I'll explain the situation to my parents after I've told them that I'm back with you, after which you can ring the doorbell and come in."
"For as long as I need?" Kickin chuckled. "I'll need it forever!"
"Perfect," Hoppy replied, chuckling too.
"Now then," she yawned. "How about we get some shut-eye, Kickin?"
"Right! Good night, Hops," Kickin said, snuggling under Hoppy's bedsheets with her.
"Good night, Kickin," Hoppy replied, as they wrapped their arms around each other and began to fall asleep together. The couples were finally together again, and it was the beginning of a new relationship. There many things still yet to say, but Kickin and Hoppy had all the time in the world to do it.
