TW: Mention of knives

Two boys sat on the roof of the Manhattan lodging house on a late August evening. The sun in the sky just began to meet the horizon as the light shone on the two uncertain eighteen year olds who were sitting just a foot apart.

       "I honestly can't believe it."

       "What?"

"Less than a year ago we was in a different century," the taller responded with a nod, "A little over a year ago we was striking against Pulitzer," he paused, he was taking a gamble, the other brown haired boy looked at him expectantly, "A few days before that," his heart was racing, "A few days before that, I didn't even know you, Davey."

"Well then I'm glad that it's now and not then." They both felt their faces heat up a bit.

Davey took his eyes off of the reds, oranges, and yellows that were painting the sky to look down at his hand that was resting on the concrete roof next to where he sat. He slid his hand a few inches closer to Jack's, before returning his gaze to the darkening sky.

"You know Davey, I don't think I'se ever had a view as good as this."

"Wait," Davey responded, turning to look at Jack, "You haven't watched the sun set up here be-?" Jack snapped his gaze back to the setting sun. Davey just stared at Jack, not caring about the dark blue that was rapidly spreading across the sky. A few minutes passed.

"You know Jack, I've been thinking about what you said a few minutes ago, about the view?" Jack turned to face Davey again, "I'd say I agree."

"Wow Davey," Jack leaned in a bit, moving his hand a few inches across the roof, "Are you'se only gonna say how much you'se agree with me tonight?" Their hands were only four inches apart.

"Well that all depends on how much stupid stuff you say tonight." Jack put his hand on his chest in mock-offense.

"Davey,!" He leaned over melodramatically, practically on top of him, "I thought you'se thought of me better than that!" Davey lightly pushed him back, gently laughing as he did so.

Jack, satisfied with himself, returned back to where he was before, his hand just slightly closer to Davey's than it was before. They both continued to sit in the comfortable silence, just enjoying the other's company, until the sun had completely set over the horizon.

"Well, Davey, I guess you'se better get going now, huh?"

"Well Jack, I guess I have an answer to your question earlier," Jack looked at him questioningly, the stars illuminating their faces, "about if I was just going to agree with you tonight? I guess not." Jack's face lit up like the sun that had only just set.

"What about Les?"

"Sarah can watch him for one night, besides, she owes me." He finally closed the gap of three inches and grabbed Jack's hand.

"Well," Jack began, sliding closer toward David, "what does she owe you for?"

"Not important." He replied, scooting forward in turn, lost in each other's eyes. They just continued to sit there like the homosexual buffoons they are. Until Jack let go of Davey's hand.

He let out a big very obviously fake yawn, and wrapped his arm around Davey's shoulder. Davey, without missing a beat, let out an equally as fake yawn and put his head on Jack's shoulder. Jack, continuing with the fake yawns, rested his head on Davey's.

Davey began to softly hum while running his fingers through Jack's hair. They sat like that for who knows how long, certainly not them, until Davey finally said something.

"So wha-" he was interrupted by an actual yawn, "what are we?"

"I don't know, but what I do know is that you'se tired, and that we can figure it out in the morning. After we both get some sleep."

"I don't know, I'm just nerv-"

"I'm not going to leave," He lifted his head off of Davey's, cupping his face with his other hand "I'm never running away again, I promise."

"Even from Sarah?" He responded, leaning into Jack's hand. He gently kissed Davey's forehead.

"Uh huh, unless she has a knife." Davey let out a small laugh.

"I can live with that." He said.

And with that Jack laid down, and Davey laid down with him. Their arms still entwined. It was the soundest sleep either of them had gotten in a long time.

"Hey Jack," Buttons yelled, climbing the fire escape up to the roof, "Sarah's here, and she's aski-" upon seeing this new hot goss, he climbed back down to where the rest of the boys were.

Jack and Davey were both jolted awake by the sound of screaming, and someone running up the fire escape, as well as someone much slower also coming up the fire escape.

"SARAH!" Davey was bright red in the face, "WHY ARE YOU HERE!"

"BECAUSE YOU DIDNT COME HOME LAST NIGHT, BUT THAT'S NOT IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW."

That was when Crutchie finally made his way up to the roof.

"Do they finally know their dating?"

So, how was that? I think I did pretty good! As per usual, feel free to leave constructive criticism in the comments. Also I've been looking at tags and... why are there no newsbians centered fics? Like there are oneshots, there in a lot of other fanfics, but not a one is Newsbians centered. Is this a call to action? Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. But anyway, I'll try to update as soon as I can!
