Aria awoke the next day at nearly noon to an empty dorm. And then an empty common room. Where had everyone gone?

She sulkily headed to the Great Hall, in search of her friends. The great hall, to her surprise, was also almost empty. Aria thought hard and then realised that today was the first day of the holidays - Everyone had already left for Christmas break. Her friends included.

She sighed and wondered where she should go... Back to the common room? No, she had nothing to do there...Perhaps the library?

"Or we could have a game of chess," Aria suddenly heard someone say hastily, "or Gobstones. Percy left a set —"

"No, let's visit Hagrid," said another voice firmly.

She turned to look where the voices were coming from. Ah, just as she suspected. The infamous Golden Trio. Well, atleast she wouldn't be too bored today.

She jogged up to them, suddenly slapping both hands on Ron's back, the Ginger jumping a little in surprise. The blonde grins, "Where are you three headed? Can I come too?"

Ron and Hermione nervously started shaking their heads when very surprisingly, Harry nodded. "We're going to Hagrid's"

And so They made their way slowly down the lawn, making a shallow trench in the glittering, powderysnow, their socks and the hems of their cloaks soaked and freezing. The Forbidden Forest lookedas though it had been enchanted, each tree smattered with silver, and Hagrid's cabin looked likean iced cake.

Ron knocked, but there was no answer.

"He's not out, is he?" said Hermione, who was shivering under her cloak.

Ron had his ear to the door. "There's a weird noise," he said. "Listen — is that Fang?"

Aria and Hermione put their ears to the door too. From inside the cabin came a series of low, throbbing moans.

"Think we'd better go and get someone?" said Ron nervously. "Hagrid!" called Harry, thumping the door. "Hagrid, are you in there?" There was a sound of heavy footsteps, then the door creaked open. Hagrid stood there with hiseyes red and swollen, tears splashing down the front of his leather vest.

"You've heard?" he bellowed, and he flung himself onto Harry's neck. Hagrid being at least twice the size of a normal man, this was no laughing matter. Harry, about tocollapse under Hagrid's weight, was rescued by Ron and Hermione, who each seized Hagridunder an arm and heaved him back into the cabin.

Hagrid allowed himself to be steered into achair and slumped over the table, sobbing uncontrollably, his face glazed with tears that drippeddown into his tangled beard.
