Flashback
Under the vast expanse of a star-speckled sky, the meadow lay in serene stillness, bathed in silvery moonlight. Tiny wildflowers, their colors muted in the dark, released a faint, sweet fragrance that mingled with the crispness of the night air.
Fireflies flickered like tiny lanterns, their golden glow punctuating the darkness, illuminating the space briefly before fading into the inky void.
The ground beneath was cool and soft, dotted with moss and soft earth. In the shadows, one could catch the faintest glimpse of a rabbit, its ears perked, listening intently for any sign of danger. The grass swayed gently in the cool night breeze, each blade glimmering like a delicate strand of emerald silk as a little girl with shining eyes and a cascade of curls darted through the night, her laughter ringing like silver bells.
"Catch me if you can!" tiny Mavis called, her voice a sweet melody that danced in the cool night air. The thrill of the chase lit up her eyes as she darted away, her small feet barely making a sound against the ground.
"Slow down, little firefly!" her father teased, pretending to huff and puff as he trailed behind. He crouched low, making exaggerated movements to mimic the exhaustion of a bear. "Oh no, my legs are too tired!" he exclaimed dramatically, only to burst into a playful sprint. The moonlight illuminated his grin, and she squealed, her laughter rising like music.
Her four older brothers, each brimming with energy, joined the game, weaving through the tall grass like a pack of playful wolves. "We'll trap her by the willow!" Damien shouted, leading the charge, their competitive spirits igniting the night. Mavis glanced back, her heart pounding with excitement, and quickened her pace, her giggles mingling with the rustling leaves.
As she zigzagged through the meadow, the cool night air brushed against her skin, and she could hear her brothers calling out to one another, their voices blending into a chorus of joy. "She's over there!" "No, this way!"
The blonde girl turned and spotted a patch of wildflowers that glowed softly in the night, an irresistible distraction. Mavis dashed toward them, her laughter bubbling over as she picked a handful, twirling in delight. "Look! They shine!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling as she held the flowers up to her brothers and father.
But her father seized the moment. "I think we can't let her escape!" he declared with mock seriousness. He and her brothers lunged forward, and she squealed, tossing the flowers aside and taking off once more, her laughter trailing behind her like a comet's tail.
"Got you!" Arman, her oldest brother exclaimed as he reached for her. But she was too fast, slipping away just in time, her giggles ringing out like a challenge.
