2003

The group was lounging in the hotel room, the tension from their earlier discussions simmering in the background. Mavis had slipped out a few hours earlier, mumbling something about needing space, leaving the rest to relax—or, in Meira's case, pace restlessly by the door.

Atlas was seated by the window, absently cleaning his dagger, while Estrella scrolled through her phone on the couch, her boots propped on the coffee table. Meira had just started muttering about how boring it was without Mavis when a sharp knock echoed through the room.

Everyone froze.

"Not again" Meira groaned, rolling her eyes. "Didn't we just deal with a delivery guy? What now, more flowers?"

Estrella glanced up sharply, her fingers twitching at her side. "Doubtful" Atlas straightened, his hand instinctively moving toward the dagger hidden in his boot.

"Who is it?" the tracker asked, her voice low, her silver eyes narrowing as she looked toward the door.

"No idea" Meira replied, a hint of annoyance in her tone. "But I'm the only one here who seems capable of opening doors, so I guess I'll find out"

"Be careful" Atlas said, his voice steady but firm.

Meira shot him a grin over her shoulder. "What, you think some delivery guy is going to take me out? Relax"

Aro Volturi.

Dressed impeccably in his usual dark suit, his pale skin seemed to glow under the harsh hallway light. His crimson eyes sparkled with something unreadable, and a polite smile curved his lips, though it didn't quite reach his gaze.

Meira blinked, momentarily stunned by the sheer presence of him. She'd heard plenty about the Volturi Kings, but seeing one of them in person—especially here, on their doorstep—was another matter entirely.

"Aro" she said, recovering quickly and stepping into the doorway, crossing her arms. "Well, this is... unexpected"

Aro tilted his head, his smile widening slightly. "Ah, Miss Licerli, is it?" His voice was smooth, disarming, but there was a subtle undercurrent of authority that sent a shiver down her spine. "It's a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance"
