2003

When Jane and Alec returned to retrieve the guest, they found her lounging near the grand gates of the Volturi Castle, utterly unfazed by the towering statues and the deadly silence.

Her presence wasn't human. Or rather, it wasn't just human.

Jane found herself watching the way the woman carried herself. Her form was statuesque, willowy yet strong, with an unearthly grace in the way she stood. Her skin had an otherworldly glow to it, faint as moonlight and her pointed ears peeked through a curtain of shimmering dark hair.

She looked like she belonged in the starlight of an ancient forest, not in the dark fortress of the Volturi. It was reminiscent of a warrior, a seductress and a queen rolled into one.

And that smirk.

The woman's smile held secrets, things that the Kings wouldn't like, truths she wouldn't speak until she was ready.

Her lips curled in a lazy, knowing smirk as Jane approached her. "Well, this is a lot of fuss, isn't it? I'm just here to visit my bestfriend"

Jane's crimson eyes narrowed. "You will speak carefully when you stand before the Masters"

The woman arched an elegant brow, unbothered. "Oh, I'm sure your Kings are quite intimidating. Lead the way, little shadow"

Alec stiffened at the remark, but Jane merely turned sharply, her heels echoing as she led the visitor inside. The woman followed, her posture fluid and her expression cool, as though she were taking a leisurely stroll through a meadow rather than walking straight into the den of the world's deadliest vampires.

The woman's heels clicked confidently on the dark marble floor as Jane led her deeper into the Volturi fortress. She barely glanced at the eerie statues flanking her or the watchful crimson eyes of the guard lingering in the shadows.

Instead, her attention was on herself or at least, the way she presented herself.

With each step, her long black coat swirled dramatically around her, giving flashes of the figure-hugging midnight dress beneath it. The leather straps across her boots crisscrossed all the way to her thighs, and a gleaming intricate silver pendant low against her collarbone.

She adjusted the chain casually like it was second nature to ensure she always looked her absolute best.

Her dark hair fell in a sleek cascade down her back, and her eyes, brilliant silver-blue scanned the castle with an air of curiosity. There was no fear. No trembling hands or hesitant steps. She walked like a queen who hadn't been crowned yet, oozing confidence and danger in every stride.
