Niall was right. And I was wrong. I was wrong at getting irritated when he didn't get "surprised" at me offering to resign from Orient after Prakash Sir almost fired me. He was correct – I had to resign anyway, so what's the big deal.

Learning that I was pregnant with twins and realizing that not even a week was left for me to venture on a new journey of my life, in fact something that would change my life completely; I was happier than ever. And in this occasion, I thought to not hold back the process of wrapping things up in Calcutta anymore. Therefore, instead of post Christmas I planned to resign from Orient before the Christmas holidays started.

I typed and printed a nicely written resignation letter and folded it inside an envelope. I went to office as it was Christmas Eve – the last day of office before the holidays, and technically my last day at Orient as well.

At the end of the day, I arranged my stuff inside my bag, turned off my computer for the last time, and went to Prakash Sir's cabin.

"May I come in, Sir?" I inquired, opening the door partially.

He lifted his head up from the file that he was scribbling something on, and nodded. We didn't spoke since that day I announced of resigning, and I was thankful to him for that. It made the leaving thing easy because honestly, even I loved working at Orient.

"How are you, Lily?" he asked me, which I understood was plain formality.

"Fine, sir, thank you," I smiled widely, and nodded.

"Please have a seat," he pointed at the chair before his table.

"Thank you," I retorted and sat down.

"How can I help you?" he entwined his fingers together.

I swallowed and took a deep breath.

"I remember having a conversation with you on Tuesday," I looked confidently in his eyes. He didn't say, instead kept glaring, so I continued, "I informed you that I was going to leave India soon, but then we...I mean, my fiancé and I didn't book the tickets. We have now and it's on 1st January. I figured that after the holidays, workload will come flying by and it will be unfair for me to resign then, so," I fetched the envelope from my handbag and stretched my hand before him. "Here is my resignation letter. I've had an amazing one year with Orient and honestly, I'll be leaving with a lot of lessons that I learnt. Thank you for giving me an opportunity."

I noticed Prakash Sir clench his jaws so hard that I was afraid they might fall off. His look turned out to be scary, but I didn't break my gaze too. I wasn't committing any mistake, and hell I will not need to deal with him ever in my life, so I said "Fuck you," in my mind.

Finally when none of us spoke for the next five minutes, Prakash Sir grabbed the envelope, in fact snatched it from my hand and slapped it on his table.

"Can I ask you some questions, Miss. Thomson?" he snapped.

"Certainly, sir," I nodded.

"How old are you?"

"22."

"And I heard you're an orphan, is that right?"

I swallowed down the anger than instantly developed inside my throat. "Yes, sir," I somehow nodded.

"And I also heard that you've no relatives to take care of you as well," he raised his brows.

Blood coursed through my veins, but I only said to myself that this was momentary.

"I don't need anyone, sir. My parents raised me to become an independent woman," I replied.

"I've always liked your confidence," he chuckled. "But, Lily have you thought about the consequences? I mean, you're 22, completely alone, and pregnant with some foreigner's child who can dump you any day, taking you to London?"
