Note - I have included the topic of a university because I know that there were universities in ancient India. I have drawn my inspiration from Nalanda university which actually existed in the past. The subjects and curriculum have been modified according to my own imagination for entertainment purposes. So the contents in this novel maybe historically inaccurate. But hey, it's a fantasy world and I can modify the facts😉
(Vishwavidyalaya means University)
Gyanadeep Vishwavidyalaya
Laxita's POV
I was standing in the front of Gyanadeep and my mind was blown away. It was huge, gigantic, enormous, marvelous...I'm officially out of words. Here I am, in the city of wisdom and in front of my dream University. My heart was doing a little flip flop and there was a huge grin on my face.
A man arrived to carry my luggage to the girls dormitory. I was going to stay in the University's dormitory. All of us had separate rooms. As soon as I saw my room, I was awestruck. Beautiful was an understatement. It was spacious and comfy. The sunlight was filtering through the windows painting the room in a yellowish glow. I would definitely not be missing my room at home.
We kept the luggage inside my room and went out to meet Vanya, Nakul and Yash. They greeted my parents and Vanya hugged me to congratulate. My face instantly lit up when I saw all of them especially Nakul. I was seeing him after months and he was still handsome as ever, although, he rarely smiled. The evening sun was doing marvels to this beautiful city.
Gyanadeep was located in the city of Shakti Nagar, which was the capital of Shaktidvipa kingdom. Shaktidvipa was known as the land of wisdom. The king had established this university almost 150 years back to spread the joy of knowledge and education among the people. Soon people from other kingdoms also started studying at this university and today it is the best in the entire sub-continent.
As my parents were leaving the very next day, I decided to stay with them at an inn. I wanted to spend all these precious moments with them as I didn't know when I will be able to meet them next. There was still a considerable amount of time till holidays. I insisted them to stay for a few more days as it was a long and tiring journey but my father said that they had to leave as it was a busy season for business.
The next morning, my parents came to bid me their farewells at the university gate. There were tears in our eyes but I knew that they were happy for me.
"Humari nanhi pari ab nanhi nahi rahi. Khoob safalta prapt karo meri pyari bacchi," my father said while patting my head.
("Our little angel is not so little anymore. May you get all the success my dear daughter.")
My mother kissed my forehead and said, "Hume garv hai apni bacchi par."
("We are proud of you my daughter.")
I hugged them and bid them them good bye. I was standing on the gate until I could no longer see them.
After they left, I turned and entered the University which was going to be my new life for the next 4 years. Vanya greeted me as soon as I entered the dormitory. She was the one who was the happiest, after my parents, that I have joined this institute.
"Laxu, mai bata nahi sakti ki kitni khushi hui mujhe jab mujhe pata chala ki tum bhi yahan aa rahi ho," she said.
("Laxu, I cannot describe my happiness when I heard that you were also going to come here.")
"Are you ready for this new life?", she asked.
"You bet, I am", I replied.
I was so ready to join my first classes from tomorrow. All of us had an option to choose our subjects. I chose Maths and History as my subjects. I know they can be boring to many but I had to learn Maths and calculations, if I had to inherit my father's business. And I chose history because I was interested in the origin of magic. My mother taught me all about finance but I still felt that it was not enough. I was taught basics at home by various teachers because I was very frail as a child. Meanwhile, Nakul, Yash and Vanya attended Gurukuls for their preliminary education.
Vanya was a year older than me so she was a second-year student. Her subjects were politics and culture which were honestly so boring to me. Nakul and Yash were third-year students and their subjects were swordsmanship and battle tactics. They were going to graduate by the end of next year. I chose swordsmanship as an optional subject since I had taken a basic sword training from my father. Also, Nakul and I had no common subjects so I took up swordsmanship to impress him. Nakul and Yash chose geography as an optional subject and Vanya chose pottery as she hated all other subjects. It was kind of hilarious as Vanya was astronomically bad at pottery. She might have aced her main subjects but she was failing in her optional subject. Language and ancient scriptures were common subjects for all the students.
"Let's go and explore the city, I'll show you around." Vanya said.
"Yes, let's go. But first show me around the University. I don't know my way around here."
She showed me around the girl's dormitory first then we went to the bhojan kaksh (dining hall) to have lunch. I also came to know about where my classes were.
After exploring the institute's premises, we went ahead to explore the city. It was that time of the year when a fair was being conducted in the city. We enjoyed the rides, games and sweets at the fair. It was so much fun. The day ended in watching the sunset near Suryasagar lake.
We came back and had our dinner in the dining hall. After dinner, we went to our respective rooms. I had to unpack a little and adjust my room. It still hasn't sunk in yet that this room was going to be my home for the next few years. As soon as I finished my work, I quickly changed from my saree to a night dress. After getting comfortable, I lied down on the bed but sleep was no where to be found as I was very eager to start my first day.
