Laxita's POV
After what felt like ages, the midnight finally arrived. I left my room and secretly headed towards the library. My room was on the topmost floor and the library was at the ground floor. So, I stealthily moved across the stairs. Thankfully, there were no guards. I had kept all my things hidden in a corner shelf in the library. As soon as I reached there, I removed the thick cloth from the window, took my things and leapt outside.
When I reached the garden, I could see the guards at a farther distance. I was praying that they don't see me. I was about to reach the stables when 2 of them suddenly appeared. Gosh! What a wrong timing. They immediately understood what I was trying to do and blocked the entrance of the stables. I took a few steps back and kept my things down. I was wearing my mother's pendant now but I still had no idea how it worked. But still I tried to use it as it had started glowing again.
"I wish those 2 men will faint immediately."
Nothing happened. Ugh! How does this thing work? The two of them looked at each other and laughed. They unsheathed their swords and pointed them at me. I was in deep trouble now.
One of them attacked me but I ducked to save myself. The other one attacked me and I couldn't dodge it in time so my arm was injured. They started attacking me mercilessly and I dodged a few attacks while the rest of the attacks injured me. There was blood dripping down my hands now. This was not looking good. Think of something. ANYTHING.
"I wish I would at least get a sword to fight them."
Suddenly, the sword of one of the men disappeared and reappeared in my hands. Wow, this was some magic. I smirked while looking at them. The pendant was not working according to my wishes but still it was helping me.
"The match is even. Come on, now..."
I gestured them to come forward. The other one with the sword approached me but before he could attack me, I ducked and attacked his thigh. He immediately staggered back. I may not know many things, but I was confident about my swordsmanship. I landed a few more attacks on his arms and legs which would not kill him but at least make him immobile for a while. I had no intention of killing anyone today.
The one, who didn't have the sword, ran away but the commotion drew 2 more guards. I have to hurry up before all of them notice. There is no way I can fight so many of them. I repeated the similar procedure. I injured their arms and legs and made sure that they won't follow me.
I could not enjoy my victory for long as this skirmish had caused a setback in my plans. I quickly picked up my things and ran to the stables. I decided to keep the sword with me for self-defense. I spotted Megh as soon as I entered. I had been seeing him after so long. At least he was healthy. I knew that Mohan ji had been taking care of him. But my uncle didn't permit me to go near Megh, or any horses for that matter. According to him, girls should not ride horses and stay away from them. I know right, what a jerk.
"How's my handsome Megh?"
He neighed in response. He was happy to see me. I smiled and hopped on him. I am so glad that I took horse riding lessons from my father.
"Come on, Megh. We have to leave this place. Our new home is in distant lands so please stay with me."
He neighed again and we left the stables in a cloud of dust. We escaped from the back gates. There was a reason why my father named him Megh. He runs so fast that you feel like that you are actually floating on the clouds.
(Megh means cloud)
"Megh, we have to stop somewhere. Let's head to the palace first."
I steered him towards the palace. At least, I had to inform one trustworthy person about my plans. Vanya. I reached the palace gates and a soldier stopped me.
"Kumari Laxita, aap yahan? Itne raat gaye?"
("Miss Laxita, you here? At this late hour?)
"Yuvrani se kahiyiye ki mujhe unse milna hai. Bahut zaroori hai isliye itne raat gaye pareshaan kiya"
("Tell the crown princess that I have to meet her. It's very urgent that's why I have disturbed her this late at night")
The soldier nodded and went inside to inform her. I asked him to tell her that I am at the palace gardens.
She was taking quite a while. What was she doing- Ah! they're newly weds. Of course, they would be busy at night. What was I thinking? Should I just leave? No, if I leave right now, it would be even more suspicious. And since I have already disturbed her peaceful night, let's wait for a while.
She arrived a few moments later in a very disheveled condition. Words were not needed to explain the situation. I mentally face palmed myself.
"Laxu, what happened? I am sorry for coming so late...Yash was not leaving me. He said that he would accompany me but I stopped him and told him to rest because he was very tired and then he pulled me back on the bed again-"
"First of all Vanya, I am very happy for your blissful married life but this is too much information which I don't need. You don't actually have to explain me. Secondly, I would love to listen to your ramble but I am really short on time and I have to LEAVE soon..."
"Where are you going? Wait...how did you get out of the house? Why are your arms injured? And what are you doing here in the middle of the night? Seems like I missed a lot..."
"One question at a time. If you would just let me EXPLAIN..."
"Sorry...Carry on."
I explained everything to her. Right from my mother's letter to my escapade. Her expressions turned from surprise to shocked to amused.
"So, right now, you are leaving for Soma Sangha - The mage association?"
"Yes. And I wanted to inform you before leaving so that you won't worry."
She smiled and said, "Are you sure about this? This is what you want?"
"I am sure about this Vanya and want this more than anything in my life."
"Then it's all good..."
"There is one more thing. You can tell about me to Yash but make sure that Nakul doesn't get to hear about this."
"Why?"
"Because, I don't trust him Vanya. He betrayed my faith in him. I hate him and he hates me. He refused to listen to my desperate requests. What if he tells my uncle about my whereabouts out of spite? My uncle might drag me back home before I could ever reach there. Nakul would be so happy to see me miserable. Just tell him that wherever I am, I am fine, if he ever asks. Which I am quite sure that he never will."
"Alright. But be safe, hmmm?"
"I will take care of myself. Don't worry. And I will get in touch in with you as soon as I reach Soma Sangha."
She hugged me once and then I left. I had a long journey ahead of me. The sun was about to rise and I had to leave Kshatra Gadh fast. Before anyone notices....
