Laxita's POV
"Let's get married."
There, I said it. I mulled over it a lot and then I decided that a straightforward approach was the best.
When my eyes met Veer, I saw that he had frozen in his seat. I wasn't even sure that he was breathing. It was the gradual rise and fall of his chest which indicated that he was alive.
"Veer?" He was appearing out of sorts today.
"Hmmm? Yes...Yes, let's get married."
"You know what a marriage entails, right?" He nodded in response. "Good. Just making sure that we're clear."
"Loud and clear." Why did it feel like I was an army general who was reprimanding a new soldier?
"Now that we're on the same page, I would like to discuss the logistics of our relationship."
"Logistics?" He looked puzzled.
"Yes. If we're going to announce that we're getting married, we have to come up with a proper story. I just can't spring up my marriage on my aunt's family by saying that - 'Hey aunt! I am getting married to Veer because I desperately need a husband.' It's wrong on so many levels."
"So, what do you suggest we do?" Amusement laced his voice. Good, at least he was back to normal.
"We have to spin off a story. Something which could convince everyone about why we suddenly want to get married. We only met a few weeks back so, we have to sound convincing."
"How about this - We met at Gyanadeep Vishwavidyalaya. I fell in love with you at first sight but you were engaged to someone else. So, I never confessed my feelings and we went our separate ways. Years later, we reunited. I confessed my feelings to you and you agreed to my proposal."
"Wow, that's-that's an amazing story. How did you come with it on the spot? It sounds believable and convincing. You falling in love with me at first sight might me be a bit of an exaggeration but people love romantic stories. This is a brilliant idea Veer! I am impressed."
Veer's POV
She looked genuinely happy about the story I just spun up on the spot. I can't even begin to describe just how close that story is to reality. I am not some brilliant storyteller like she thinks I am. Those are my real feelings and it is based on a true story. Does she really think that I can't fall in love with her at first sight? Does she really not realize how incredible she is?
After the initial shock subsided, I was completely on board with whatever she wanted. I don't care under what circumstances she agreed to marry me. She's MARRYING ME, that's the only thing I am concerned about. I will be spending the rest of my life with the woman I've been dreaming about for several years. I am so happy that I want to jump up and down because I can barely control my excitement.
I don't know what our married life would be like but I know one thing for sure, I will always be by her side. Someday, I will confess my feelings to her - the ones I've been holding on for years. But today is not that day. This is neither the time nor the place to pour out my earnest emotions.
I just gave a casual shrug in response to her compliment. "We can tell this story to everyone to sound believable."
Her expression suddenly grew solemn and she said, "Veer, I think we overlooked a very important matter..."
"Which is?"
"This story and convincing is fine but what comes after that? I mean, none of us are going to stay at Soma Sangha. You have to leave for Somapura and I have to leave for Kshatra Gadh. How will we manage this relationship if we are going to stay in two different kingdoms?"
