Laxita picked up the parchment to open it. The handwriting was familiar. She immediately recognised it, that was her mother's letter. Her mother had written a letter for her. It was hidden very carefully, that's why she never saw it.

She started reading the letter-

Dear Laxu,

It's me, your mother. I decided to give you this letter on your 15th birthday because I think that you are old enough. There is a secret that your father and I have been hiding from you. I don't know how to say this but I am really nervous while writing this letter.

I used to live in the kingdom of Somapura. You know that I was an orphan so I had no one to support me. But I was not alone. I had my twin sister with me. Her name is Shobha. I know you would be shocked because I never mentioned her. But trust me, we had our reasons to not tell you.

Moving on with the story of my past. My sister and I were 12 years old when the head of Soma Sangha, the Mage association, found us at the orphanage. He informed us that both of us have inherent magical powers. He asked us to come with him. So we followed him to Soma Sangha.

There, we came to know that both of us had really strong magical powers. So, we started our training there. Years passed and both of us were full fledged mages.

It was a day like any other when I was visiting Somapura for some work. It was then, that I saw your father. It was a love at first sight for both of us. He was carrying out his business in the city. That part of the story is not a lie. Both of us started meeting each other and realised that our feelings are much stronger and we wanted to get married.

I went back to Soma Sangha to inform them of Yashwant. They welcomed my decision and then we got married. Your grandfather was very happy to have me. And a few years later, we had you. You were so lucky for us that after your birth, the family business skyrocketed. You are literally the most beautiful thing that ever happened to us.

When you were born, I realised that you also had magical powers. I wasn't sure if you would inherit the powers because your father was not a mage. But you did. I had to conceal your powers because a danger was lurking around us. Because of that, we left Somapura and settled in Kshatra Gadh.

I met with Shobha and decided that it was best if we stay away from each other so that I can protect my family and wait until you grow up a bit. You were so small and you couldn't protect yourself. I also hid about Shobha because if I had told you before, you would not have understood the situation. There were some dark powers which were very dangerous and they were after us. Shobha agreed and we decided to stay in touch through letters so that there was no trace of our magic. I also hid my magical traces.

But now you are old enough, so I want you to take you to Soma Sangha. I want you to meet with your aunt. She would be so happy to see you. She would also tell you in detail about the dangers plaguing us.

After your graduation from Gyanadeep, I want you to learn magic at the association. So, in the next holidays, let us visit your aunt and learn about your abilities.

With Love,
Maa

Laxita closed the letter and started crying. This letter was supposed to be given to her at her 15th birthday but her mother didn't live that long to give this letter.

But now, she had a shocking revelation. Her mother was a mage and so was she. Her powers were concealed. She had an aunt at the association who might be waiting for her. Now, she had both the destination and motive to leave. She had found hope in this dark life. Magic was her heritage so she had to learn it.

She quickly wiped her tears and sat down to inspect the pendant. It might be a magical artifact but how does this thing work? Another thing which was kept with the letter was a book. She tried to open the book but it was not opening. Some magic was involved there too. Her aunt would know what to do with this book. In the meantime, this pendant should help her.

Suddenly, it started glowing again so she decided to test it.

"I hope that I find a escape route from this mansion," she said.

Suddenly, the glass from the nearby window disappeared. She was surprised to say the least. The window was open now and she could escape from there. She was fascinated. This pendant could help her in escaping. All she had to do now was to forge a proper plan.

The next few days were quite busy for her. The first thing which she did was hide the window with a thick cloth. Since, it was at the back of the house and there were no other windows/escape routes at this part of the house, so there were no guards present.

She secretly packed all the necessary items - a few clothes which are easy to wear, all the money which she had saved, a little bit of food which lasts longer and some water.

For the past few days, she was observing the guards and she noticed that after midnight, the number of guards were the least due to the changing of shifts. Also, they would have thought that she would never escape this late at night. They didn't know that they were underestimating her.

She was trying to avoid her uncle's eyes at all costs. This plan had to succeed. She had spent days planning it and there was no way that she was letting it fail. When everyone thought that she was wasting her time in the library, she was actually planning her escape.

Her marriage was next week which meant that her wedding rituals will start by tomorrow. So, she had to make the escape by tonight, before her uncle starts looking for her. Dhanendra was also supposed to arrive at Kshatra Gadh, day after tomorrow.

Firstly, she had to go to the stables anyhow so that she could reach Megh, her father's horse. The stables were near the back gate of the mansion. She had to cross the garden and reach the stables undetected. Once she reached there, she could hop on Megh and escape from here. She was praying that there would be no guards at the back gate.

Now, all she had to do was to wait until midnight. Once the night was deeper, she would escape. She had to stop somewhere in between and then she would leave in the cover of the darkness...
