Author's POV
It has been a few days since Laxita left. But, Vanya was still not at ease. She was worried about Laxita. Whether she was safe or not. Whether she has been eating properly or not. Everyday, she's waiting for her friend's message.
Other than that, her life has been really peaceful. She was adjusting to the role of crown princess quite swiftly. The people at the palace were also friendly and nice. The queen was teaching her everything that she needed to know. The king was preparing for Yash's coronation as he was planning to pass on the throne to him soon. Above all, her husband loved her very much. He's really attentive towards her needs. Both of them were planning for new schemes for the betterment of the kingdom. Also, her husband didn't let her sleep at all at night so she's tired these days. Not that she's complaining. Other than that, everything was going smoothly.
Vanya told Yash about Laxita's story and asked him to not tell Nakul as she had promised her. Yash was surprised at first but he agreed. He was quite happy that one of his close friends might actually be a mage.
Vijesh came to know about Laxita's disappearance the next afternoon because he was busy drinking and by that time, Laxita had long gone. He ordered the guards to search for her but it was too late. They had no idea where she was headed. There were only 2 people who knew that and nobody else did.
Three weeks later, Nakul came back to the kingdom. He thought that Laxita would come to meet him as soon as he arrived because she sounded desperate. Vanya was visibly angry at Nakul and he didn't know why. She was openly glaring at him. Yash also seemed disappointed. What was happening? They were not even talking to him.
When Laxita didn't come for a few days, Nakul decided to visit her house. As soon as he entered, he saw that the house was quite empty. Where were all the servants? Why is it so quiet? It has been a long time since he last came to her house, so the place seemed a bit unfamiliar. He saw her uncle casually sipping alcohol.
"Where is she?" He asked as soon as he saw him.
"Who...."
He was slurring. He was definitely way too drunk but Nakul wanted answers.
"Laxita. Your niece."
"Ohhhh...you're talking about her....I don't know where she is. Nobody knows where she is..."
"What are you talking about?"
"She's missing...How long has it been? Ohhhh....I know....she's been missing for a month now...yes, a month..."
"WHAT? She's been missing for a month and you're acting as if nothing is wrong? Shame on you. You are her only relative for God's sake!!!", Nakul screamed.
"Shhhh....don't lecture me on how to take care of my niece....when you also don't care about her...You think I don't know? I might be drunkard...but I am not foolish..." Vijesh sneered.
This instantly shut him up. Nakul had never openly cared for her. He was always annoyed by her. But her disappearance was bugging him. So, he decided to meet his friends who obviously knew something about her.
"I will deal with you later."
"I will be waiting..."
He left her house and headed straight towards the palace. His friends were hiding something from him and he needed to know.
"Inform the crown prince and princess that I have to meet them urgently", he asked an attendee as soon as he reached there.
The attendee nodded and went to inform them. Vanya and Yash came soon after.
"Well look who it is...It's our precious friend," Vanya said sarcastically.
She was angry. Really angry. Because if he had chosen to help her, Laxita wouldn't have to wander around in danger. She had already suffered too much. The situation at the borders was normal. Vanya had checked thrice to be sure of it. But no, he stubbornly stayed there and now her friend is out of contact for weeks.
"What is wrong with you? Why are you talking to me like that?", Nakul asked.
"You are asking me what is wrong with me? You left my friend alone when she needed you the most. You refused to listen to her. You left her to marry that old maniac when you knew that it would kill her from inside. Don't give me excuses about the emergency. I checked the situations at the borders. Everything was normal. You really are a heartless person."
Nakul flinched. What was she talking about? Marriage?
"What marriage are you talking about? Tell me in a way that I can understand. What's wrong?"
"What marriage? The marriage which her uncle fixed with some sixty year old man when you were away. She was locked inside her house. Her uncle was forcing her to get married without her will. She sent you letters, begging you to come back as both of us couldn't interfere. You were her fiancé so you could have done something. I sent you orders to come back. Yash sent you orders. But you ignored all of them. Maybe you don't fear our authority. And you are asking me what's wrong..."
"Which letters? And what orders? Nothing is making sense. Until..."
"Now you understand?"
"Where is she right now? I know that you know about her whereabouts. Tell me!"
"I won't tell you because I promised her that I won't utter a single word about her to you"
"Yash, you know too right? Tell me where she is please."
"I am sorry, brother. But I can't tell you. Also, I am really mad at you. I never supported you when you treated Laxita coldly. And now, she has trusted me with this. She doesn't want you to know. I can assure you that wherever she is, she's fine. I am sure we will hear from her soon."
It was as if everyone was talking in a language which he couldn't understand. What's going on? His friends are so angry at him. And where in the world is she? What went down in the last few weeks that brought such drastic consequences?
"I don't want to see you right now. Can you please leave?" Vanya said angrily.
Nakul understood and left the palace.
"Yash, did you see how he was reacting? He says he has no idea about the marriage or the letters. I personally made sure that those letters reached him. How is it possible that he didn't read them? It is only possible under one condition and that is he deliberately ignored those letters."
"Calm down, Vanya. You know how he is. I know you are very tensed about your friend but I am sure she is fine. This is Laxita we are talking about. I am sure we would hear from her soon."
Vanya nodded and Yash hugged her. Laxita should have reached Soma Sangha by now, so what was taking her so long to reply?
