Billie's Pov:

I snapped open my eyes. Surprisingly it was still dark outside. Weird I thought 'cause everything was fine, everything was on it's place and Rachel was still curled up in my arms. There was no reason to wake up, to feel anxious, yet something was off.

My eyes flicked to the clock on the nightstand - 3:30 am, it's been only about 2 hours since we fell asleep. Rachel would probably say that around 3 am sometimes strange things happened, and maybe something I couldn't see was the reason I woke up. Even tho I listned closely when she was talking passionately about these kind of things, I'm still suspitious about all of that spiritual stuff. At least at that moment I was sure it wasn't anything like that.

I sat up on one elbow, brushing my messy hair out of my face. I furrowed my eyebrows a little while scanning the room. Nothing. Just overwhelming darkness.

I let out a loud sigh and flopped back onto the pillows, my gaze now locked onto the ceiling as I sunk deeper into the bed. The familiar warmth of Rachel beside me was reassuring, and I was just about to snuggle back into her when-

"Billie..."

It was faint, barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to send my heart racing. My blood ran cold. I stiffened, listening intently as the pounding of my heartbeat echoed in my ears. For a sec I thought that maybe it was Rachel, maybe she was just having some dream, maybe she was just talking in her sleep again, but it didn't sound like her at all. This voice was... deep and rough, totally opposite of Rachel's soft, melodic one. It couldn't have been her.

I glanced around the room again, eyes darting to the window. I had closed it before going to bed, it was definitely locked. there was no chance for any sound to get through unless it was loud noise. Definitely not a whisper.

That left no reason for me to hear anything from outside. The only other person in this house, beside us was Finneas, and he wasn't the type to play pranks, especially at 3:30 AM. If he wanted something he would just text me.

I closed my eyes and focused my senses, the sharpness of everything becoming heightened as I tried to peek on every small sound, every shift in the air. And then I heard it again. This time the voice calling my name sounded clearer, more pronounced. "Billie" It was ringing in my ears, echoing in my head. I felt like I'm loosing my mind.

I wasn't the fearful type of person, but whoever was playing with me, well, he managed to make my hair bristle on my neck. Taking a steadying breath, I slowly began to lift myself from the bed, moving with care so I wouldn't disturb Rachel. I felt a strange pull to go outside and check what's going on.

Just as I was slipping my leg out from under the covers, Rachel stirred beside me, her body shifting slightly as she let out a quiet whimper. "Baby... stay.., please" she mumbled, pouting half in sleep.

I smiled despite the growing anxiety in my chest, leaning down to press gentle kisses across her forehead and cheeks. "I'm just going to the bathroom" "Why?" She asked in her cute, sleepy tone. "Cause I need to pee.., I'll be right back, I promise." I chuckled. My voice was soft, reassuring, though I was lying through my teeth. I couldn't risk scaring her.

Rachel giggled faintly, reaching out with her eyes closed as if she was blindly looking for me. I gently grabbed her hand and pressed her palm against my face. "I'm here" I smiled as she cupped my cheek and I leaned to give her tender peck on lips. She was so sleepy that she didn't respond to it, but a dreamy smile appeared on her face and her thumb lazyly caressed my cheekbone. "Okay... go back to sleep, princess," I whispered, kissing her forehead once again but this time a bit slower and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
