Butterfly Wings

I've been buzzing and wired now for three days straight. Being at my mum's, I found solace in her ever-supportive words. But being interrogated by her on all things Iev Barrell and my date with a woman,...wow, I still can't believe I did that...I couldn't wait to escape and possibly get a chance to see Iev again.

Today, I'm finally back in Toronto, meeting with my favorite sneaky squirrel. I know Melanie didn't just happen to have time to pick me up from the train station and also somehow have the time to meet for a late lunch, but I do owe her so so much now. And technically, since we didn't get to meet for breakfast, I agreed to let her take me out to lunch.

'Sooo, how was your first date?' She sings, leaning foward over the table. I laugh giddily at her cunning. 'I know you enjoyed it, but only because I had to get the dirt from your beautiful redhead.' She teased me. 'Oh, and you can thank me now.'

'You know, I was catching up with my mum.' I defend. 'Who, by the way, hasn't stopped asking me about our outing since I got to hers on Wednesday evening. She almost followed me here so she could meet Iev in person.'

'Wait, so you did take the later train?...Jeff owes me twenty.' She smiles, reminding herself out loud.

'You're making bets on me now?'

'Oh, absolutely. So, what else did you do? Where did you two end up going? I've got another twenty on hot chocolate.'

I chuckle dismissing my co-star's silliness, 'I'm so glad you're being entertained, Mel.' I add sarcastically.

'But seriously, I couldn't have imagined how beautiful it would be.' I gush. 'Iev took me to so many places. Places that definitely don't fit any standard date spots. But they were special to Iev...Did you know she was homeless for a time? I know it's sad, but she knew of all these amazing places because of it. Like this giant heat exhaust vent. Scary, but very warm. And this hidden tunnel in the park. She took us into the woods and we sat inside a giant tree trunk for at least an hour or two.' I continue rambling.

'They're sentinels, marking the gateway and ushering us through.’ She looks up at the open sky, ‘When the weathuh warms, they glide across the sky and then you'll know,' Iev turns, her dark eyes focused on mine, 'profound change lies ahead.' She slowly explained the beauty of the osprey flying overhead. And I couldn't help wonder if her words really meant something more.

Iev let me sit on her lap, her arms wrapped around me. Here in the woods, it was so quiet and calm. 'No one will bother us here,' Iev had explained when we arrived at this tree.

It's nice to be alone with her, surrounded by nature. Iev and I easily draped in a very comfortable, cozy silence.

I've only ever experienced such stillness when I meditate and even that is sometimes forced. Here, there's no rush, nowhere to go, no need to think. Actually, the only thing I'm thinking about is how good this feels. Is it real? It is...real-ly unbelievable.

And resting here, I must have dozed off, at least twice, already. I thought I was dreaming, but woke to Iev whispering a spell into my ear.

Liber iam cor meum sequi

Ma, tu te Dom, fortis

Poets es ser libert cormeum

Seqsi tam

Tun liber cor...

'Whoa! What?! Did she call you sexy Dom?' Melanie questions.

'I know. That's what it sounds like, right? I was half asleep, but definitely woke up when she said that. But, all the rest of the poem, I really couldn't understand. I thought it sounded like Latin, though.'
