In her arms was clutched the crying shaking body of a young girl, five maybe six, a human. She was scared, the sent wafted off her like a flag. She held the child closer as it slowly fell to exhausted sleep, while Kaji looked about. Both Tokala and herself had their hands and feet bound but the child was bond by hand only. The blood had dried on their bodies but neither of them were fully healed, their captors must have used such force on them just to prevent them from fighting. They were at the very back of a cave, all but the smallest weakest ignoring them. The alpha and his mate were about midway in the cave while the obvious beta guarded the entrance. The others scattered around closer to the back. Her gaze went back to the beta, something drew her attention as strange but she could not place it staring at his back the way she was. He was reclined on a boulder facing the entrance so that only her upper shoulders and head were visible. Carefully she lay the child down and moved over to Tokala tapping him so that he jolted awake.
He flopped for a moment looking like a stuck fish. Had it been any other situation it might have made Kaji laugh but right now it was just sad. The runt did laugh causing her to growl. When Tokala finally stopped moving he had managed to sit up, “Are you alright, Kajika?”
“More so than you I think. I should not have let my guard down,” She replied sadly yet her mind was already calculating ways of getting out of there.
“What do you think? Why do they want us here?”
I’m not sure. We are far from the clan so it could not be for power.
“And it can’t be me alone because I’d be worth more alone.”
True. What would they want with Tokala and the girl?
“I don’t know but we have to get them out of here.”
Let Tokala care for himself.
“That is cruel.”
I am wolf. I choose my own way.
“Fine then the child.”
Yes.
“Is that a human child?” Kaji nodded to him. There was quiet a moment as he questioned why this was happening. His voice, the voice of an alpha, rang through the cave, “What is the meaning of this?”
The entire pack jumped slightly but then the alpha looked at them and laughed. “You are in no position to be demanding anything.”
Tokala bristled at this, “I demand to know who you are and why you have seized us.”
The alpha stalked over and punched him in the jaw. “I am alpha of this pack. You will give me respect or be punished.”
Tokala growled in anger, fighting his bonds.
“Watch him fight like a common dog. Hey, Sucki, I bet he was a pet to those humans,” The smallest laughed.
“Shut up Chunta!” the alpha growled at him but what caused him to whimper was the seething glare from Tokala. Tokala and Sucki yelled back and forth. Kaji watched in what appeared to be submissive fear while in reality she was gauging the cohesion of this pack, learning all she could about each member.
The Beta, a vary large wolf with raven hair, kept an ear on the argument while keeping a vigilant watch over the pack. As it turns out this wolf was actually a she, rare as that was for a female to have power and not be mated, who cared much for the pack. Sucki’s mate was power-hungry and, from the way she eyed the second largest male, a wench. This male was light haired and fair skinned in wolf form he would have only stood as tall as the brothers. But he was still very young a child compared to the rest, though, his body was scared from battle. The next was a dark complexion with sandy hair, which seemed to be lazy yet strong. Chunta, the last and perhaps the weakest of the group was the same complexion as the beta a healthy sunned tone yet his hair was a dirty brown and from every movement he made you could tell if he was given the chance he would stab you in the back as well as look at you if you had something he wanted. The one thing all of them shared was the clear scares of loners who had fought for years to survive. This pack only survived together in the most basic of forms, safety in numbers. Nothing truly held them together except perhaps the beta. She out of all of them seemed to care for this little pack of misfits. Yet Kaji could not blame her for wanting to protect them, they were her family no mater where they came from.
