When she woke it was midday and she was covered in blankets. Knowing that everyone was gone she stretched feeling no pain whatsoever. Her stomach growling caused her to laugh lightly before she quickly changed into fresh cloths and headed for the house. No one but the women were in the house again, and Halona quickly got her some food. As she sat down to eat she looked to the other women as they entered. They watched her in admiration and fear.
“Tokala told us that the guardian released you from punishment and healed you,” Misae spoke finally.
Orenda questioned, “Is it true are you totally healed? I saw what Kiche did to you, it was so savage.”
“Yes I am healed but I hardly remember what all happened after I talked to Tokala,” Kaji answered to them finally finishing her breakfast. Oh she remembered all that had happened but she wanted to know how much he had told.
Everyone looked at her sadly. Misae again was the only one willing to speak, “He told us of your charges being murdered while you tried to get them to safety. That you were the soul survivor of your clan. He told us of how as soon as you had finished speaking the moon light surrounded you from above brightening you even through the trees. Then the moon healed you and dissolved the ropes that bound you. He told of how you had seemed so free in the moments after the moon took hold of you and that silver stars floated within the moons beam making it so bright that he had trouble seeing. How when the light left you were released from your trance and fell to your knees crying at the memory. Then you went to bed.”
He did not tell them about our eyes, good.
“Maybe I can trust him?”
Not yet wait.
“He will be angry. I don’t want him angry.”
Something is still out there, some danger.
They all went into the living room and awaited their return. They were actually due back very soon since they would have the herd moved quickly. They were right, not even an hour had passed when they were spotted at the barn.
Mark stepped into the barn while the others all came up to the house. Tokala stayed outside with Mark but he nodded at the house. Halona grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the house tossing a coat at her. “Come, Kaji, Mark had a present for you. I think you will like it”
They ran to the barn stopping in front of Mark and Tokala. Mark motioned for them to enter the barn, and they did. He turned to Kaji and smiled, “Halona told me that ya loved horses and I was wonderin’ if ya would like ter take one of the horses for a run?”
Her eyes grew wide at the prospect and she looked over to all the horses. She nodded her head up and down so frantically they all laughed at her. Then she looked at him curiously, “But which one?”
Before he could answer a white head appeared over the stall door and whinnied bobbing its head. Mark laughed lightly but shook his head, “Well if you think you can handle him, Blizzard looks like he wants you to take him.”
They walked down to the stall and she placed her hand on his muzzle. “He is so beautiful.”
“He is also stubborn as possible and a true stallion ta boot. You want ter tack him up yaself?”
She shook her head, “No, I just need a head stall for him. I only know how to ride bareback.”
“Alright. Tokala ya gona ride out with her?”
Tokala looked at him like he was crazy, “I’ve never ridden in my life.”
Mark laughed again at his look, “Alright. Here I got a good tame mare for ya that’ll work. Cloud here so gentle a new born babe wouldn’t fall off. I’ll get her tacked out for ya.”
