When we woke up in the morning, Yoko was still a little distracted, but she seemed calmer than before. I told her that it was time for us to leave the chalet and decided to explain to her on the return trip that her mother was actually the secret shareholder.
When we set off, we were silent in the car. Yoko was thoughtful, and I was wondering how to tell her. Finally, I gathered my courage and turned to her. "Yoko," I said, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice. "I need to tell you something. I found out from your mother who the secret shareholder is... it's... actually your mother."
Yoko's face froze, alternating between surprise and anger. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice filled with uncontrollable anger.
"Exactly," I continued, "Your mother owns a large stake in the company and they have been hiding it since your birth. Your mother said she felt guilty that your father kept the truth from you."
Yoko clenched her hands into fists and looked out the window. "Why now?" she muttered. "Why is everything coming out now?"
"I don't know, Yoko. But it's time to choose what to do."
When Yoko and I returned to the city center, the crowd in front of the house descended on us as soon as we stepped in. Reporters surrounded us with their huge cameras and microphones. As the flashbulbs went off one after the other, Yoko's frozen expression gave way to a cold mask. The reporters' questions began to rain down on us like a torrential downpour.
"Ms. Yoko, how was your honeymoon? What do you think about your new marriage?"
"Mrs. Faye, do you have a wedding date yet?"
"Yoko, how was the marriage proposal?"
"Mrs. Yoko, do you and your husband plan to work together?"
"Faye, how are the wedding preparations going?"
"Yoko, are you planning to become a mother?"
"Mrs. Faye, what did you bring back from your honeymoon?"
"Yoko, did you sign a prenuptial agreement?"
"Was it a secret where you went on your honeymoon?"
"Do you think this marriage will last?"
"Yoko, how did your family react to this marriage?"
"Faye, do you have any new plans for the company?"
"Ms. Yoko, how did you meet your husband?"
"Ms. Yoko, what are your father's thoughts on this marriage?"
I answered each question as calmly and cautiously as I could, and Yoko hardly spoke at all. Instead, I gave general answers, saying, "We were on our honeymoon, we don't have a wedding date yet." I was trying to manage the situation, hoping that everyone would calm down and the questions would stop.
But in the midst of all this bombardment of questions, one journalist asked a question that touched Yoko's weak spot.
"Ms. Yoko, your father was seen at the airport with a young woman. Who was this person?"
The cold mask on Yoko's face suddenly cracked. A flash of anger appeared in her eyes, her lips pressed tightly together. This question was the last straw that broke her patience. I could feel how angry she was, but I knew that an outburst in the middle of this crowd would not be right.
However, Yoko needed to control her emotions and I knew that I couldn't control her reaction to this question. But I was perhaps the only one who understood the real reason behind Yoko's anger. So I immediately approached her, touched her arm lightly and tried to keep her calm in front of the cameras. It was too optimistic to think that Yoko could remain calm under so much pressure. At that moment, anger flared in her eyes and she pushed my shoulder back hard. "Enough of this nonsense!" she shouted, her voice silencing the entire crowd.
