I did what any girl does when she has a problem and doesn't know how to fix it. I asked my father. After my mother had calmed down, I pulled him aside away from watchful eyes and listening ears. With my arms folded across my chest and a scowl on my face, I asked the biggest question, "Is this seriously the reason you hate each other?" I hissed at my childish father. He just glared at me and my tone, "Yes, Athena, it is. Your mother cheated on me with that man and it caused a rivalry. What's the issue?"

"Seriously?! What's the issue? Well do I still need to kill Leo? I mean the man you hate is dead anyway." My question made my father stare me down intensely, "Yes, Athena you still kill him. Stop worrying about me and my enemies and start thinking about yours. Hasn't he done terrible things to you? And what's to say he still won't try to kill you. He's a manipulative psychopath just like his father. If you want to save our kingdom you can't let your guard down."

That was actually a good point. Suddenly all the memories of what Leo has done me came rushing back. The abuse, the lying. And my father's right. What's to say Leo won't still try to kill me? He's a heartless man after all. It was silly of me to think any differently. And the most important thing here was my people. Who I promised I would save, and I'm going to. "You're right. I'm sorry for questioning you." I spoke and my father nodded in approval. "Now go make your husband happy. Make him think you've let your guard down. Then he'll strike. But you'll be ready." I nodded and then walked away, hoping I won't have to see my father for another two months again.

I joined my friends again and for the next two hours we celebrated. We drank, we laughed, we danced. It was wonderful. But once it reached twelve everyone was ready to head to bed. "Meet you in my room?" Leo whispered in my ear and a shiver went down my spine. I nodded. "I'll see you there." He smirked before walking off, following a drunk Angelo to help guide him to bed. I rushed to my room to grab a few necessities. The maids will move everything into Leo's room tomorrow. It kind of terrifies me that I'll be sharing a bed with someone who's trying to kill me.

After undoing my hair and removing my makeup, I threw a toothbrush, hairbrush, and some extra toiletries in a small bag and changed into a pink silk pj set before making my way to Leo's quarters. Specifically, his room. I opened the door to find him already lying in bed. He was sitting there, shirtless, typing up a storm on his laptop. I walked into the bathroom without a word and started to lay out my things. Then I brushed my teeth and walked out. I stood in the doorway of the bathroom for a second, just staring at my husband. Which was weird to say.

He glanced up at me and for a moment we just stared at each other. I found that we do that a lot. "I have a gift for you." He said calmly before rising from under the sheets, revealing black and grey checkered pj pants. He walked over to his desk and opened the drawer, taking out a small box. He walked back over to me and placed it in my hands. "Open it." He demanded. I peered up at him to see him staring at me impatiently. I gently opened the box and stared at what was inside. It was a necklace. A locket to be exact. It was in the shape of a lotus flower. "It has dried lotus petals inside. I picked it out because lotus  flowers are beautiful, but poisonous. Just like someone else I know." I looked up at him, too in awe to speak.

"Thank you." I whispered and he nodded. Leo carefully removed the necklace from the box. "Turn around, tesoro." He ordered and I did so. Moving my long hair off my neck, he clasped the locket around my neck. The pendent felt unfamiliar, cold. Just like Leo. Silly how it represents both of us.

"Im sorry our wedding night turned into such a... mess." He spoke as he fixed my hair. "It's okay. Makes it all the more interesting." Leo grabbed my hips and spun me back to face him. "I hope you know the games not over, Athena. I can't trust you and I know you know what I mean." I nodded, "I know." He smiled at me then reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. "I want you so bad." He mumbled and the heat in my stomach started to pool. "Well good thing we have until the coronation." I whispered back, my voice breathy. I looked up to see him staring down at me with hunger in his eyes. "Mi flor de loto." (My lotus flower) He whispered as he stroked my cheek with his hand. I leaned into his touch involuntarily and let out a soft moan.

"Fuck." He growled and my heart skipped a beat. Leo suddenly grabbed the back of my neck, pulling me towards him and kissing me so harshly I felt I would fall over. But I quickly matched his rhythm and soon our lips were moving together like water. His tongue prodded at my lips and I opened my mouth, letting him explore. He held my head with both hands, kissing me so intensely that he needed to hold my weak body up. He released his lips from mine, quickly moving them to my jaw. He kissed up to my ear, biting and sucking the outer edge of it. I moaned and I could feel his chuckle vibrate through my entire body. Grabbing my ass, he lifted me and threw me onto his bed.

He jumped on top of me, leaning down to ravish my neck with little pecks and licks. I moaned loudly and he responded by pushing his hips against mine. I gasped at the friction and my hips jumped up to meet his. He stopped for a moment and made direct eye contact with me. "Athena, are you sure you want to do this?" This was it, "I'm sure."
