"Athena! Athena, baby, wake up!" I was in a cloud of darkness, but a voice screamed at me to escape it. "Athena!" My eyes shot open, and I immediately screwed them shut. A fit of coughs wracked through my body and smoke stung my eyes and nostrils. "Thank God." Leo hissed as he wrapped his arms under my shoulders and hoisted me up. "Come on, tesoro. We've got to get out of here."
Leo dragged my limp body along as the cloud of smoke grew. Memories of my conversation with Angelo came streaming back and my head hurt. "Angelo..." I whispered. "I know, baby, I know. He visited me before he fled. I'm so sorry I let this happen to you."
"No," I mumbled, "It's not your fault." Leo shook his head, "If only I had known he was my brother. I would've given him what he wanted. I would've helped him." I nodded, "I know." The smoke got stronger, and Leo got weaker. We were only halfway to the exit and the place was already falling apart. The walls cracked and threatened to crumble as the fire ate away at the architecture of the palace.
"Come on, come on." Leo hissed as he tried to drag me along. "Leo, we aren't going to make it." I murmured and he looked down at me, tears in his eyes. He fell to the ground and wrapped me in his arms. "I'm so sorry, Athena."
"Shhh, it's okay my love." I snuggled into his arms, coughing as I did. Leo started coughing as well. "I have a question." I choked out in between coughs. The wall next to us started to crumble and the dust from the rubble made my eyes water even more. "What's that, tesoro." Leo said softly, stroking my hair and rubbing my belly. "What's tesoro mean?" I asked softly and he chuckled. Well, it was meant to be a chuckle, but it came out strangled. "Treasure. You're my treasure, Athena. The beautiful thing I was reaching for." I smiled as I clutched the locket around my neck.
"I love you." I whispered and Leo shoved his face into my hair, soaking it with his tears. "I love you too, Athena. So much." I coughed again and more rubble came crashing down as the fire tore away at my home.
"Leo," I said, and he nodded into my hair, "Find me in the next lifetime?" I asked, tears streaming down my face as I rubbed my belly softly. "Okay." He whispered, taking me back to a memory that feels so long ago. "Okay." I replied softly. Then the palace came crumbling down, and the world went black.
