ATHENAS POV
My head was pounding. My ears rang. I could feel my body but not open my eyes. I was weak. My limbs numb. My mouth frozen shut. I wanted to scream. I wanted to cry. But I couldn't.
LEOS POV
The car ride was too long. Angelo was late to getting the team ready. He said a "malfunction" came up with communicating through the holopads. I guess I'll have to tell the tech team to work on that.
Aries did her job wonderfully, as per usual, and we found Alton's location easily.
He was hiding out at some warehouse outside Gaiden. It was way too easy to track him down, and he's smarter than that. He must have something planned. I brought extra reinforcements plus am wearing a bulletproof vest. Can't ever be to careful in the world of mafia.
The drive took two hours in total with me fidgeting in my seat the whole time. I couldn't wait to get him. I couldn't kill him just yet, it would cause a huge uproar in the mafia community and I would become an easy target. I may have a lot of allies, but so does he.
The warehouse was tucked away in the surrounding woods of Gaiden. Talk, dark trees loomed over the dank building, their leaves starting to brown as it neared the fall season.
The building itself was quite large. Its dilapidated interior matched the dying trees and cast an eery feel over the area. There were a series of holes spread across the structure from the wear and tear of Mother Nature. The ceiling looked almost caved in. There was zero sign of live. No movement, no car.
My team quickly spread out. I had a whole wall protecting me and Angelo by my side. I would be fine. What I worried about was my dear fiancé. Alton mentioned touching her and the mere thought made me want to rip his throat. Weird considering I could hardly care who touched her a few weeks ago.
I shook the strange feeling away and once again remained focused. This was no simple mission. My entire kingdoms future was on the line. Funny how the future of my kingdom relies on a small feisty girl with a pretty face.
"On your word, boss. We storm the place." Angelo whispered in my ear. "Do it." I commanded harshly.
ATHENAS POV
*5 minutes earlier*
I finally woke up. My head ached and my limbs were sore but I was awake. That's all that mattered.
Although it did kind of suck that my wrists and ankles were strapped to a rather uncomfortable metal chair. I rolled my eyes. Whoever kidnapped me clearly has no creativity. Wonder where they learned this trick from.
The room I was in was disgusting. The ceiling was low and full of small holes where murky water dripped through. The floor was made of concrete and covered in a layer of dirt, dust and water. The only thing in the room was me on this stupid chair and a dingy lamp in the corner.
"Hello?!" I yelled. I just wanted to find out who had the audacity to kidnap me. Do they know that my husband-to-be is not only going to be a king but also leads a mafia. They'll regret it soon enough.
"Athena! We finally get to meet!" A man walked through the archway that led to my prison. He was shorter, maybe 5'7. He had lightly tanned skin that shown golden in the small lamps light. His shaggy brown hair was cut short and obviously kept neat. His face was clean shaven, revealing a shark jawline and accentuating his thin lips. His jarring blue eyes were terrifyingly bright. He was stocky, clearly works out. He smiled at me. It wasn't very handsome.
"And who are you?" I asked between gritted teeth. He threw his head back in deep laughter. "I see your fiancé hasn't filled you in? Now why would he, he's a wonderful liar. After all, he didn't warn about my buddy in the bathroom, did he?"
All the air got sucked from my lungs. My lips pinched together and I was trying my best not to let a tear slip. I took a deep, unnoticed breath and regained my poker face, "That's none of your business. What do you want with me?"
"Now that part is simple. Your leverage. I lure your little man in here I kill him and done. You run off to your father and go back to being a nobody."
The words stung but I didn't show it. I've always considered myself a nobody, especially in my parent's eyes. But I've never heard it from someone else's mouth, and that hurt in a different way entirely.
"Let me ask again," I said, ignoring his insult, "who are you?" His smile was creepy, like the Cheshire Cat, "I'm your fiancés biggest enemy. That's all you need to know." His vagueness was honestly more annoying than anything.
I wrestled against the thin rope, trying to break free, but it was no use. At this point, it was just something to do because I was bored.
"You're not going to get out. I don't know what you expect. Now, where is this husband of yours?Shouldn't he be on his way?" As if right on queue, the whole place got bombarded. Foot steps pounding on the floor rapidly searching for something. Someone. Me. I could hear it from at least a mile away, getting closer and closer.
"Ha! Jokes on you!" I taunted. The man smiled again, even creepier this time. "I wouldn't say that just yet, Princess." Then without another word he gracefully jumped through one of the holes in the wall and disappeared completely. What the actual fuck just happened? Is this a joke? Am I being recorded?
Suddenly, many of Leo's men came rushing into the room. "She's in here, boss." The one in front spoke into his watch. Seconds later, Leo had pushed his way through the entire crowd of soldiers and ran to my side. He examined my face thoroughly, his blue eyes tracing every detail of my face.
"Did he do something? Did he touch you?" Leo's voice was heavy with anger, it was almost as if he cared.
"I'm fine, just get me out of these ropes." Leo started right away, perfectly untying each rope easily until I was able to fully stand again. I huffed, annoyed, and ran a sweaty hand through my tousled hair.
"Where did Alton go?" Leo asked, his head swiveling in every direction. So that's his name I guess. "He's gone. Left me when he heard you coming."
Leo chuckled, "He was scared, of course. Now let's leave. This place is disgusting." I rolled my eyes at snobbish statement and started to follow him
out. Before we could even step over the threshold of the room, Angelo came running in. "Boss! There's bombs planted all over this place. We have to get out now!"
Unfortunately, Angelo was a little late with his news.
