After debating it for about five minutes, like a solid five minutes, she decided to check it out. If something got in the house, like an animal, it would be better to let it outside than leave it there.

With a groan and a lot of fumbling with her comforter, she successfully got out of her bed and reached the door placing her palm on the handle, twisting it. It opened with a click.

She peered into the hall, taking a step out, before submerging herself in the dark hall. Her phone was still in the living room, so she didn't have the flashlight.

She would have to let her eyes adjust to the darkness on their own. As she walked, she heard the noise from the depths of the hall, in a corner.

"Who's there?" She whispered, heart beating through her chest. She reached for some sort of switch in the hall, the lights above her head illuminating the hall.

Just below her was a mangy cat, or raccoon? She couldn't actually tell. Its face was contorted and half the fur was gone. It was rather large, so she assumed it would be a raccoon that got in through the window.

Poor thing, it must have gotten attacked by something, like a dog or other raccoons. Animals and insects couldn't get infected, surprisingly. That left spiders, aquatic life that weren't really considered animals, and people.

How she wished she had that luxury, instead she had to stay inside all day and pray that something wouldn't come in or those dreaded flowers didn't start to grow on her house.

The animal hissed at her, backing further into the corner. She gave it a sympathetic smile, reaching down and holding her hand out. She didn't care much about it biting her.

It only growled, teeth bared in a defensive manner, it was about to bite her. Again, she didn't care if it bit her. She cared about getting rabies though. A broom would do.

"Get, get!" She shooed it towards the door, the animal backing away from her. Eventually they got to the front door, and she opened it. She gently tapped it with the end of the broomstick, the animal scurrying outside.

She smiled as she watched it run down the street, disappearing into an alley. She was getting ready to close the door.

SNAP.
SNAP.
SNAP SNAP SNAP SNAP SNAP.

What was that ungodly noise? It was so damn annoying. Thankfully, she wasn't one of those dumbasses in horror movies and didn't go to check it out.

Instead, she went quiet and observed what she could from where she was standing. It was quieter now, she should could still hear that faint snapping noise.

SNAP.

Behind her. She turned her head, feet following afterwards. She didn't see any of those... things, in the area. Was it a person? She was a rather tall woman, so she was intimidating enough so scare any thief off.

She didn't see anyone. Was her hearing suddenly going? She wouldn't be surprised, she had that ear piercing alarm going off on the TV almost daily.

"Must be my imagination." She started her journey back to the magical place Arlene was developed. Just kidding, Esther got pregnant in a hotel.

Speaking of Arlene, Esther was going to check on her before she went to bed. As a good mother, maybe, it put her at ease to know Arlene was at least okay.

SNAP.
SNAP.
SNAP.

There it was again. God, what was it? She shrugged it off and opened the door, breath catching it her throat. The overwhelming feeling of dread returned, the same day she lost her husband.

Stood over Arlene was one of them. Limbs contorted and fingers twisted or broken. Only two left untouched. It had those flowers sprouting all over its back, mouth dripping blood onto the clean sheets and blankets.

That damn bastard. She just cleaned those!

Arlene somehow stayed asleep through that clicking noise. It wasn't surprising considering she stayed asleep through the alarm on the TV as well.

"Get... get out of my house." She ordered in a whisper, clenching her fists to the point her knuckles were paper white.

It seemingly grinned through the barrage of teeth that stabbed into its gums and lips. She glared at it as if lowered its head. She took a slow and unsteady step forward.

It was just a step. That's all it took for the creature to chomp down on the girls neck.

Arlene's eyes shot open, screams and wails being silenced by the blood pooling out of her mouth from her throat. Tears slid down her face.

Esther's lip quivered. Thinking about it— she let this thing in. The door. How did it manage to slip behind her? It smelled so grotesque she had to have noticed it.

"Bastard... fuck you, fuck you!" She charged towards it and landed a clean hit on its throat. She a heard a snap from its neck as its head moved in an unnatural way.

She huffed as she continued to claw and punch at it, the creature returned the gesture. Her arms were bleeding, along with its chest and everything above. Adrenaline rush is insane.

It definitely had ribs broken, something that wouldn't heal. It might take a lot to kill these things, but they weren't immortal.

Puncture the lungs, let all that blood seep in. Suffocate it.

When she took a moment to catch her breath, she stared down at what she did. Chest practically torn open and blood coming down its throat by what she did with her fingernails.

Flower petal were all over the floor and its darker colored blood was mixing with hers. She should probably get up and lock all the doors and windows. Sounds better than trying to eat all of her neighbors.

Imagine. Hahah, maybe god will fuck her over and make her sentient. She'd love that. Such pretty flowers, maybe they'll cling her too.

She hopes those vines choke her.

After so long, it must have been necessary to kill Esther's little girl. After all, even after you try so hard, and so long for things to finally go your way, it must be taken away in the end. Do you agree?

Well, I guess I'm just an anonymous character speaking at the end of this. You'll see me soon enough later....
After all, it's too late to go back to bed.
