Pairing: Sanemi Shinazugawa X Reader
Title: Welcome Home
Warnings: angst.
Y/n Shinazugawa waited patiently for her husband to come back home.
You had just gotten a crow that he and someone he had been sent on a mission with (begrudgingly), was on their way home.
You had gotten the message three days ago, and according to his letter, he'd be back around evening time today.
You made sure to keep the two cups of tea warm and the biscuits crispy for when your beloved got home, excited for his arrival.
When a sharp knock sounded at her door, she expected her husband, not Giyuu Tomioka, Sanemi's mission partner, standing on her front doorstep with a bouquet of dark blue flowers, a white, folded haori, and a green and black katana sheath in his arms.
His face looked more solemn than usual, his eyes downcast.
"I- I'm so sorry, Mrs. Shinazugawa."
You blinked. Your brain was processing what was going on, until it clicked.
Your husband did not come home to you like he promised.
You tried to speak but nothing came out.
You tried to cry, but once again, nothing.
"No, no..."
Giyuu gently set the katana leaned up against the doorframe, hung up the haori on the front hook, set down the flowers, and slowly opened his arms.
He wasn't normally one to do these kinds of things, but Tanjiro had told him once that hugs were a good way to comfort someone in distress or grieving.
You fell into his arms, your tears finally falling from your ducts and onto his mismatched haori, your arms tight around his torso.
Your shoulders violently shook against his firm hold, letting out your frustrations and despair.
"Mother, are you alright?"
You quickly turned and wiped your tears, trying to compose yourself in front of your child. No kid should ever see their mother in such distress.
"Oh, hello, Uncle Giyuu!"
Sanemi hated when your children called him that.
But Giyuu frequently visited the estate, trying his best to befriend the platinum haired man.
"Children, why don't we go for a meal?" Giyuu softly albeit monotony told the kids, motioning for them to follow him out the door.
Giyuu took one last glance at you before leaving with your children, an affirming nod as the door closed.
With your children temporarily out of your hair, your voice freely screamed, your tears freely flowed, and your fists connected with the floor.
You couldn't have had your happy ending, could you?
