Title: "Too Soon"
The plate of onigiri you were holding crashed onto the floor, earning a small flinch from the talking crow in front of you.
-
"I offer my condolences, Mrs. Rengoku," the crow left with a caw and you could have sworn you saw his eyes leaking fresh tears as well.
-
Your breath stuttered as you gripped onto the edge of the kitchen counter, hot tears streaming down your face uncontrollably.
-
About a minute later Senjuro ran in, tears of his own making wet lines on his cheeks as he looked at you.
-
As you looked at your husband's little brother, you felt immense pain as sobs began to wrack your body.
-
You reached your arms out to him and he accepted them, bringing you in for a tight hug as the two of them cried helplessly in each other's arms.
-
The rest of the week went by in a blur. The only thing keeping you grounded was the delivery of Kyojuro's haori, folded neatly with a small bouquet of red lilies.
-
Tanjiro had soon stopped by and offered his condolences as well. He talked to Senjuro and after he did, he talked to you.
-
The two of you sat and talked over tea, catching up on everything since the last you saw him and his comrades on Mount Natagumo, where you, the flower haashira, accompanied by Shinobu and Giyuu went to relieve the stress off of the younger slayer's backs.
-
You considered Tanjiro a good friend now, having written and received letters for a few months now.
-
You two weren't that far apart in age, considering you were two years younger than Kyojuro, who was twenty. Tanjiro was 16. (ik on google it says he was fifteen but his birthday was only a few months away i think. My oneshot my rules ig)
-
"I just- I wish I could have done something. I felt like a boulder; I couldn't move, I couldn't think. I could only watch," he said sadly.
-
You paused for a moment while taking a sip of your tea.
-
"Tanjiro, I have a very important question to ask you," you spoke up.
-
He looked up from where his hand was swirling his now lukewarm tea.
-
"That night, Kyojuro was supposed to come home. I had the sweetest news to tell him. Unfortunately, I never got to inform him of the fact that I was pregnant with his child. I'm not sure what will happen now or how he or she will grow up without a father figure, but I plan on trying my hardest to accommodate the child's needs."
-
Tanjiro's eyes widened. He let out a sad breath as you continued.
-
"My question, Tanjiro Kamado, will you be the godfather of my soon to be born child?"
-
His lip quivered slightly. Tears made his eyes glazed looking as he vigorously nodded, bringing you in for a happy but thankful hug.
