SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

Chapter 20

Lucy's POV

Still blindfolded, I sat on the chair and reached for what was in front of me. "It's definitely not your hands holding this little object Angela...It doesn't feel like something for babies but more like jewelry..." I said and Angela took off my blindfold.
Tim was kneeling in front of me holding an engagement ring.

"Lucy, I don't think I've ever told you the first time I was impressed by you and somehow knew I liked you? It was the day when you'd only been my boot for a few weeks and you stole the money clip from my belt. You were even cheeky enough to call the bar and tell me to glove up when I had to wash the dishes to pay my bill. Nobody had ever dared to do something like that to me before and since that day there have been a thousand more moments when you impressed me. But the last few weeks you have impressed me every second of everyday with how you are dealing with the pregnancy and that there are two little people growing inside you that we have created. You support me in everything whether it was when I wanted to be a sergeant and you recorded a whole book for me or whether it is now that you wait for me after work while I go to my therapist and we drive home together afterwards. You are the best rookie I have ever trained, your Lucy Lessons are almost as good as my Tim Test. You make me happier than I've ever been and with our two sons you've given me what I've always wanted. A family of my own. I couldn't wish for a better mother for my children than you. I can only imagine one woman in general that I want to wake up next to every day until my last breath and that's you Lucy. Will you make me the happiest man in this universe by putting up with me by your side for the rest of your life, because as soon as you wear this ring on your finger, only death will be able to do us apart one day. Will you marry me and become my wife Lucy Chen?" Tim had a few tears in his eyes but also had to grin from ear to ear when he gave this romantic speech.

I cried with joy but also laughed when he told me about the time I stole his money clip. "Yes, I will, but only if you admit that my Lucy Lessons are far better than your Tim Tests."
Tim laughed and stood up. "No, I can't say that because we shouldn't start our engagement with a lie."

I got up from my chair and looked at him. "Don't make me hurt you. I'll marry you whether you like it or not. You said it yourself, only death can do us apart." I said with a slightly cheeky grin and held out my hand for him to put the ring on.
He grinned back at me and put the ring on my finger.
"Okay, your Lucy Lessons are better, but only because you're prettier than me, which is why I always fall for them. So now I've even told you in front of everyone  you're right, but don't get used to always being right just because you get my surname and a ring from me" Tim said with a cheeky grin and kissed me.

Everyone came up to us and congratulated us on our engagement.
"From the break up straight to the engagement" said Nolan, laughing.
"Boy, it's about time you put a ring on her finger, when I found out about your breakup I thought you were kidding" Grey said and we both laughed.

"We've been back together for a few weeks but I wasn't expecting this ring, I thought he wouldn't propose for a few years at the earliest" I told them.
"I knew you didn't bump your knee on the bed several times a night. It was always Tim and probably not your or his knee that bumped you" Celina said and we all laughed.  "Celina! Stop it" I said a  little shocked.

We all said goodbye. Celina and Tamara helped us tidy up and then left.
As it was already late, Tim and I went up to the bathroom and got ready for bed.

Tim was already laying on the bed when I came to him and crawled under the sheets next to him. "I still can't believe it's real and that you really proposed"
I said, staring at the beautiful engagement ring on my hand.

"I was going to propose on our first anniversary but because of the break up that didn't work out but I didn't want to wait another year and I knew you always wanted to be married before you have kids so I put a check mark at that point of your 5 year plan." He said with a grin and pulled me into his arms.

"Do you think we'll manage to get married before the birth? It's only 21 weeks away and a wedding takes a lot of planning and the boys could be born earlier." 
"Luce, we'll manage to have our dream wedding before the birth. But I'd marry you right now in these pyjamas if you wanted it, but I should probably wear more than just boxers. Because for our wedding, I need nothing more than my bride."
"Babe, that's really sweet that you would marry me in my pyjamas in our bedroom, but for a real wedding you need more than just me. We need someone to marry us, you need a best man and I need a maid of honor, braidmaies, vows, rings, a wedding cake, a buffet, flowers, a photographer, music and much more. You've already been married Tim, so you know that a wedding is a lot of work."

Tim stroked my hair. "I've never had a big wedding with a bride in a white dress. Isabel and I got married at the courthouse during our lunch break. All we had to do was sign a form and we were married. After that, we went back on patrol as normal. So this is also my first time at a white wedding too, but don't worry about the seating plan or what tablecloths will be on the tables just yet. We'll worry about that together tomorrow. Angela, Tamara and Celina will definitely help us with all the wedding preparations so don't stress. It's not good for you or our boys."

He put his hand on my stomach and stroked it.
He was then startled and immediately took his hand off my belly. "Lucy, your belly just moved slightly."
"I think your sons are having a gym session in my tummy right now, they're moving around quite a bit and slowly kicking more and more. I told you two weeks ago that I felt the movements for the first time when you said it was probably just from heartburn after eating. Since then I've been feeling them more and more intensely every day"
"So you're telling me that I felt our sons kick for the first time?"  Tim was totally flashed and put his hand back on my belly.
"Yes, now they are slowly getting so big and strong that you can feel them minimally from the outside" I said with a smile.
I fell asleep in his arms and he had his hand on my stomach the whole time.
