It had been a little over a month since Tim broke up with me.
Two weeks ago after a mission where I saved his life, we had a little moment in the elevator where he thanked me and said he would spend the rest of his life trying to pay it back in whatever small doses I would allow him.

But since that moment, there's been more or less radio silence between us except for things like 'Good morning, have a good shift or good night'.
I miss him but I'm also too proud to admit around him that I'd like to have him back.
Because he said I deserved better.

What or who is better than Tim Bradford?
No one, at least for me there is no one else.

There was a knock on my bedroom door and I was torn from my thoughts.
The door opened and Celina came in. She had been living with me for 3 weeks and it was really great. We got on really well.

"Are you feeling a bit better today?" she asked me. "Yes a little but the nausea just won't go away" I replied.

I had been extremely tired and weak for a few days. I felt nauseous all the time and I hadn't kept any food inside me since yesterday.
At first I thought it was food poisoning, but as I'd been overdue for a few days I was beginning to worry that it could be something else.

"Are you calling in sick today? You need to take it easy Lucy. I can feel a different energy around you than usual. You're at the end of your physical power. No one would blame you if you called in sick for a day."
"I appreciate your concern Celina, but I'm going to go to work, it's a bit better than yesterday. But you go ahead and drive. I need to shower before I leave."
Celina nodded and hugged me before she went out the door and drove to work.

I finally got out of bed and picked up my cell phone. I texted my favorite person. She was like a little sister and best friend to me. I knew I could turn to her with this problem without her judging me.

@Tamara
911 I have a problem, can you bring me a pregnancy test tonight when you come over?

I quickly went to take a shower because she probably wouldn't answer right away and wouldn't bring me a test until tonight after work.

Just as I was getting dressed, the doorbell rang.I opened the door and Tamara came in straight away.

She handed me three different pregnancy tests. "Hey, wow, three tests, thanks, but it would have been enough for tonight." I replied in amazement and put the tests aside.
"You wrote it was an emergency. How long are you overdue?"
"Only two days, but I'm usually always on time and I've been extremely nauseous for days" I told Tamara.

"But you always use contraception and pay attention to everything, and since I'm sure it wasn't a drunken one night stand. I have another question. When was the last time you slept with Tim?"

I looked down at the floor because the situation was already a bit awkward. "Six weeks ago was our last night together. At that time, I had also forgotten to take the pill once in the morning because we had gone out the night before and hadn't heard the alarm clock in the morning. We were almost late for work that day, so everything happened very quickly and hectic that day. I only realized it the day after when I took the pill again."

"Then do the tests now so that you have clarity" Tamara urged me to do the tests before work.
"I have to go to work right now, I'll do them tonight."
Tamara looked at me with a stern look and crossed her arms. "We both know that you would worry all day and wouldn't be able to concentrate on work if you didn't do the tests now. Since I don't want you getting shot on duty because you're thinking about whether you have a mini Bradford in you or not. I'm not letting you go until you're clear. So call in sick or go to the bathroom and pee on those sticks before you go to work."

I sighed and took the pregnancy test. "You really aren't an easy negotiation partner."
"I know" said Tamara and grinned proud at me before I disappeared into the bathroom with the tests.

5 minutes later Tamara was standing next to me in the bathroom and we both started looking at the three pregnancy tests in front of us when the stopwatch in my phone showed us that the two minute wait was over.

I looked at the tests and couldn't believe it. They were all clearly positive.
I was pregnant.

Tamara interrupted the silence. "So one could be a false positive but not all three. Are you okay with that?"I just nodded and put the pregnancy tests in my work bag. "I'll just go to my gynecologist during my lunch break and have it confirmed again. Maybe all three of them are broken and are saying the wrong thing. I can't have a baby. It wasn't planned like this."
I panicked at the thought of having a baby. I always wanted to have children, but I wanted to be married and have planned it out in advance. I didn't want to have to go through this alone and after a break up.
Tamara immediately took me in her arms. "Lucy, we'll work it out. I'm sure Tim will help when he finds out and apologize for his shitty behavior. But if he doesn't and remains an ass then I'll help you with the baby. I'm sure Celina can make us a voodoo doll of Tim that we can use to make his life difficult as revenge for him leaving you with a baby."

"Thanks Tamara, you're the best, but I still have a lot to figure out before I tell Tim." Tamara nodded "It goes without saying that you have to deal with it before you tell Tim and even if you don't want to keep the baby I will be by your side the whole time and hold your hand during the doctor's appointment to remove it."
I quickly wiped away the tears that were forming in my eyes and hugged Tamara. "Thank you. I really have to go to work now. Are you coming over tonight?"
"Of course I'll come over tonight. If there's anything, message me. I'll see you later." Tamara left and I drove quickly to work.
