"Thank you for letting us stay here, Huaisang," Xichen said softly and Huaisang gave him a tired smile, before casting a look at the quiet female. "Take care of yourself, Jie." Huaisang smiled speaking softly making the female hum and nod.

Lan Xichen gently patted his shoulder. "If you need help, just send word to me." He said gently before turning to his quiet wife. She had been too silent after knowing of the news. "A-(Y/n), let us leave now." He said as he held her hand and she merely nodded.

Lan Xichen sighed and nodded to Nie Huaisang as he turned and gently lead his wife. A ghost of a smile played on Nie Huiasang's lips as he saw the leaving female and then sighed turning to go inside.

Lan Xichen and Wei (Y/n) returned to Gusu, but Wei (Y/n) was unable to shake off the feeling of despair that had engulfed her after hearing the tragic news. She was awfully quiet and it nerved Lan Xichen. He knew she would never do something reckless, but as a mother who had just lost her child, and as a sister who had once again lost a brother, he could only hope for the best for her.

As they arrived in Cloud Recesses, Lan Lifen, and Lan Zhixin came to greet them. Zhixin happily smiled holding her robes and extending his hands up excitedly telling his mother about his days and saying he had missed her a lot. Lan Lifen, being informed of the situation attempted to talk to her. But Wei (Y/n) barely acknowledged their presence, walking past them and straight to her room, closing the door behind her.

Lan Zhixin's eyes watered as his mother walked past him without a single glance. Lan Xichen knelt and gently wrapped his arms around his son, kissing his head. "A-Xin Mama is not feeling well... why don't you go and play with Jie? Hm?" Lan Xichen stood and handed the boy to his sister.

He gently patted her head and gave her a small smile. "Please look after your brother A-Fen..." Lifen gave him a supportive smile and nodded, taking her brother to play.

"A-(Y/n)..." Xichen gently called but received no response. He sighed and decided to give her some time alone. He knew how difficult it must be for her. Lan Xichen spent the rest of the day attending to his duties, trying his best to keep his mind occupied. However, he couldn't help but worry about his wife. She had locked herself in her room, and he didn't know how to reach out to her.

As the sky darkened, Lan Xichen stood up and went to their room to check on her. He knocked on the door gently but got no answer. He tried again, a little louder this time. "A-(Y/n), it's me... can I come in?" He waited for a few moments, but still no response. Perhaps she needed some more time to process her grief and decided to head to the library to get a few books he needed.

Wei (Y/n) was in the forbidden section, trying to find a book similar to what Nie Huaisang had mentioned. She noticed a book displaced from the rest of the books and opened it up, looking through the pages. She was about to close the book when something caught her attention. Her eyes widened in shock as she read but when she flipped the page over to read the next part she found the next few pages missing. She was about to continue reading but she felt Lan Xichen's presence near.

She rushed out, putting the book away. She was going to leave but came face to face with her husband and stopped.

"A-(y/n)...?" He was surprised seeing her here. He thought she was in the room. "...Is everything fine..? Why are you here?" He immediately went over to her, cupping her face.

She sighed looking down, knowing she could never tell Xichen this. "...I wanted to distract myself..." she mumbled and Lan Xichen sighed softly, tilting her chin up. Her eyes were red, swollen even, as she had been crying before deciding to come here and test Huaisang's theory.

"My Love..." He spoke worriedly and traced under her eyes. "Have you been crying all this time...?"

Wei (Y/n) hesitated for a moment before nodding silently, tears welling up in her eyes once again. Lan Xichen's heart ached at the sight, and he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. "I'm so sorry, my love," he whispered into her hair. "I know how much this hurts you, and I wish I could take away your pain."

Wei (Y/n) buried her face in his chest, clinging onto him tightly as she let herself cry. She had been holding everything in for too long, and she needed this release. Lan Xichen held her, rubbing her back soothingly as he whispered words of comfort to her. He knew that nothing he said could take away the pain she was feeling, but he hoped that his presence could offer her some solace.

After a few minutes, Wei (Y/n) pulled away from him, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "I'm sorry," she said softly. "I didn't mean to worry you." Lan Xichen shook his head. "You don't need to apologize," he said gently. "I'm here for you, always."

Wei (Y/n) gave him a small smile, and he took her hand, leading her out of the library. "Let's go back to our room," he said. "We can talk more there, and I can make you some tea."

Wei (Y/n) nodded, feeling a little better now that she had let out some of her emotions. She needed to be clear-headed and handle the situation well. She wasn't the only one who felt the pain of their loss. Xichen was hurting as well... She sighed as she sat down, Lan Xichen kissed her head and made her a soothing cup of tea.

"A-(Y/n)...those who are gone... We can only remember them in kind words.." He said gently and kissed her cheek and wrapped an arm around her. "...But those who are still alive, we have to cherish them..." he subtly hinted to their children and she sighed, nodding. She had been neglectful of them.

"Yes...I apologize A-Huan...I should have understood, I am not the only one facing loss." She whispered and Xichen sighed with a fond smile. "Enough apologies... I'll bring dinner and call the children too." He said and softly kissed her head before standing up and leaving the room.

She set down the cup, took a piece of paper, and wrote a letter, sending it to the newly appointed Nie Clan leader.

"A-Huan...My Love...Not all who leave are only to be remembered.."
