It had been five months since Rowan had first visited Mystic Falls, vowing to draw Klaus there and exact her vengeance. In truth, she'd had to interfere very little in the affairs of the doppelgänger, Elena Gilbert. She'd already found herself wound up with Stefan when Rowan had arrived, and it hadn't taken long for the world of supernatural politics to sweep her away. Rowan's greatest struggle had been the fact that Stefan wasn't alone: Damon had returned to Mystic Falls with the intention of freeing his beloved Katherine from the tomb she had been supposedly sealed in for the past 145 years.

Rowan had hesitated to become too involved with Elena, not until she had no other choice, at least. She didn't want herself becoming too attached, particularly with Damon back in the fold. The return of Katherine Pierce to Mystic Falls had shaken them in recent weeks, and the trio was looking for answers surrounding her surprising return, and the arrival of Mason Lockwood, who appeared to harbour a secret of his own.

In search of answers, Elena, Damon and Alaric had journeyed to the Duke University campus. Elena's birth mother Isobel held an office there, where she had researched supernatural folklore before herself becoming a vampire. It was through this mythological research that they now combed, searching for anything they could find on Katherine or the local legends of werewolves.

"Hey guys, check this out." Alaric said from his seat, handing a sturdy tome of old pages to Vanessa, Isobel's research assistant, who scanned her eyes over it.

"There's no record of werewolf mythology in Mystic Falls, but here are some records of some of the lesser-known legends." She offered the book to Damon. "Everything from Scandinavian skin-walkers to the Maréchal de Retz." Damon examined the drawings in the book, Vanessa pointing. "Tonartsliitsii Metslii, which roughly translates into 'the Curse of the Sun and the Moon'."
