Mystic Falls, March 2010

Rowan had taken her time ruminating over her best course of action when it came to dealing with the doppelgänger, especially when she had Damon and Stefan in tow. She had spent the winter months at home in New Orleans, playing out possible scenarios in her head whilst Marcel tried unsuccessfully to deter her from returning to Mystic Falls. He had lost his mother before, and he wasn't anxious to do it again anytime soon. The more Rowan plotted, the more Marcel believed that she hadn't given much thought to the end game. No matter her dealings with the doppelgänger, it was inevitable now that Klaus was going to show up, a fact she seemed to be doing her best to ignore. Marcel worried how she would take it when she eventually came face to face with her former lover.

Despite Marcel's pleadings, Rowan had went back in Mystic Falls. She'd spent two weeks there collecting information and trying to find the proper moment to let Damon and stefan know she was back in town. When she thought of what Stefan's reaction would be to this news she came up blank. She hadn't seen him in over 60 years, but they had parted on friendly terms as he shipped off with the war effort. Damon, however, was going to be a challenge.

No doubt he'd be pissed.

The annual Lockwood masquerade ball was drawing close, and after careful deliberation Rowan had decided it was in her best interest to attend. Whilst keeping an eye on the Salvatores from a mistance she'd learned that Katherine had demanded the moonstone from them, to be given to her at the masquerade ball that night. With this information, Rowan was sure that her presence was necessary.

It was now or never.

"How do you think the Salvatores will react?" Marcel asked. Rowan had him on speaker phone whilst she pulled her hair back and clipped it in place.

"I haven't the foggiest. It's not Stefan I'm worried about though, at worst he'll be a bit defensive of Elena but I can handle that. It's Damon that will be my biggest hurdle. He always was unpredictable..."

"You're sure you want to do this? There's still time to back out, Rowan. You could just come home. The Quarter isn't the same without you."

"I'm positive." She nodded firmly in the mirror, even though he couldn't see. "Don't worry, everything will go to plan."
