Rowan had a restless night after what she had learned about Elijah. She had known him since they were children and despite years of separation she had thought she knew him still, but after her discovery that he had a hand in her return, paired with his intention to let Elena die, she had found herself quickly in opposition to the man she had always stood by. Despite her doubts about what this meant for their partnership and for their dealings with Klaus, Rowan was determined that Elijah would feel a fraction of the pain he had inflicted on her by dragging her back from Hell.

Still, she had forced herself to remain composed in front of him and to carry on as if nothing were amiss. The next morning brought them on a tour of some of Mystic Falls' historical sights, led by Elena's lovely aunt Jenna, who carried old maps and surveys with them. Jenna, happy to help, also seemed eager to learn more about the two immortals, though she didn't know who they truly were.

"Is this your first collaboration?" She asked.

"Actually, no. Elijah and I have known each other for years. We've done several papers together. Both of us once had family who resided in Virginia, so we chose here for our newest research."

"Well, you two seem to work together perfectly. If you don't mind me asking... are you two..?"

"Together?" Rowan finished, and Jenna nodded. She glanced at Elijah, who gave a stoic response. "No, Elijah and I are just friends."

"Sorry, I just thought you two seemed rather close."

"We are, just not in a romantic way."

A minute passed in silence as they trudged on, leaves crunching underfoot as they made way through the woods. "The old Fell property actually starts just beyond that fence." Jenna told them, easing some of the tension.

"Ah, the Fells. One of the Founding Families." Elijah said condescendingly.

"Why do you say it like that?" Jenna asked.

"Our research showed us that this area was actually settled almost two full centuries earlier. It was a migration of townsfolk from the northeast -"

"Salem, to be precise." Rowan smiled.
