"Alright, here's the plan to get into the building," Marjorie started, pointing at a map. "Mia, Reece, and Jodie will start from this side, move through here, and then enter from here."
Mia rolled her eyes. "That makes no sense," she muttered, clearly irritated.
"And why not, genius?" Marjorie snapped, her frustration evident.
"Because your plan is flawed. We'd be exposed for far too long, making us easy targets for any attack," Mia said, her voice laced with irritation as she shook her head.
Marjorie's annoyance flared. "Not if you can protect yourself."
Mia's eyes narrowed. "Do you honestly believe Jodie can protect herself in that situation?" she shot back, her tone sharp and incredulous.
"I totes can, Mia!" Jodie said with a defiant edge.
Mia rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Just because Marjorie's the leader doesn't mean she's the best one here. My plan is simpler and more effective, reducing the risk of any of us getting hurt," she snapped, her frustration palpable.
Marjorie's face hardened. "Mia, I don't care what you think. I'm the leader, and what I say goes."
"You think you can do everything better than anyone, but trust me, Marjorie, you can't," Mia snapped, her voice edged with anger.
Marjorie's face flushed with frustration. "Oh God, Mia, why do you have to have such an attitude?" she shouted, her patience wearing thin.
Mia rolled her eyes, her irritation bubbling over.
"I mean, no wonder your dad left you—he probably just couldn't deal with you!"
The room fell silent as Mia absorbed Marjorie's words. Her eyes widened, and she slowly turned to face Marjorie. "What. Did. You. Just. Say?" Mia's voice was thick with a mix of anger and confusion.
"You heard," Marjorie said dismissively, rolling her eyes.
Mia stood there for a moment, her breathing growing rapid as she struggled to find the right words. Anger and confusion swirled inside her, leaving her at a loss for how to respond. After a few seconds of silent turmoil, she decided to leave the room. She rushed down the hallway, and up the stairs, to her bedroom, seeking solitude to hopefully calm herself and regain her composure.
Everyone stood frozen for a moment, trying to process the gravity of the situation. Marjorie, still bubbling with frustration, remained oblivious to the hurtful impact of her words. Charlotte, recognizing the need to comfort Mia, quickly left the room to head up to their bedroom. Meanwhile, the children and Jodie had already exited a few minutes earlier, wanting to avoid the escalating argument and any unpleasant scenes.
Winter and Autumn decided to leave shortly after, leaving the living room with only Reece and Marjorie. The tension in the room was palpable as they remained, the weight of the argument hanging heavily in the air.
